  1. "Went to" is not the same as organizing or budgeting.

"The U2 360° Tour was the highest-grossing tour of 2009, with earnings of over $311 million for the year's 44 shows, and around 3 million ticket sales. Due to the high costs to operate the tour, U2's profits were minimal. Sales of No Line on the Horizon had been slow, meaning the group was not making much money from that either."

Literally taken from the wiki site for the 360 tour.
  2. Billboard: How long will it take to get into the black?

McGuinness: When do we hit the break-even point? We haven't hit it yet. But we will sometime between now and the end of this leg.

Billboard: So next year is gravy?

McGuinness: Not exactly gravy, because whether we're playing or not, the overhead is about $750,000 daily. That's just to have the crew on payroll, to rent the trucks, all that. There's about 200 trucks. Each stage is 37 trucks, so you're up to nearly 120 there. And then the universal production is another 50-odd trucks, and there are merchandise trucks and catering trucks.
Words from Cash McGuinness himself, circa 2009. $250,000 per concert night? Try $750,000 per day, regardless of whether the band is on stage or not.
  3. Surely this isn't the filmed show with Lady Gaga...

It's not the variation or lack of that gets to me, it's the awful encore- terrible, surely they can't think this is good.

Second half started ok with invisible and even better and mysterious ways always makes me nauseous. Saw the guitar come out for elevation and lost all enthusiasm for the show. Ordinary love with gaga was actually close to the highlight of the second half for me. Every breaking wave was nice and crowd sung loud. Back to bullet straight after suggested a DVD show to me. Crowd loved with or without you as usual. Bono read most of streets off the prompter, another pointer to some sort of DVD show for me. Streets with the mostly correct lyrics and a loud crowd was my second half highlight. Noticed edge had something on the end of his guitar in the first half every couple songs that looked like a camera too, never noticed before. Show needed bad or 40 and suffered from it.

    Highlights

    Gloria
    Whole first half
    Streets
    Invisible
    Ordinary love

    Overall show ranking now

    Chicago 5
    New York 1
    New York 4
    Boston 3

    New York 2
    New York 3
    Chicago 4
    Toronto 1
  4. Sorry for the very off topic tangent. 360 is already in the books and I nailed my presentation for which I did this research.

Now regarding the topic at hand, let's see how the band decides to tackle the first Show 6 of the tour. I think the general opinion is that tonight left much to be desired, especially with two e-stage songs being repeated in the same city. A part of me thinks the remaining shows will follow the old setlist format and I don't know if that bodes well or not for incoming surprises...
  5. Just need a new song in the encore... I hope they realise this in the month off that is coming up and change it for Europe
  6. They really need to change it up in Europe. Bring in new songs for the slots between MW and EBW
  7. To be fair, the encore for the first leg of 360 had zero variation. We always got Ultraviolet, WOWY, and MOS. Even the first portion of the second half was still set at HMTMKMKM, WOWY, and MOS. It wasn't until the later portion of the second NA leg that we saw Ultraviolet and HMTMKMKM on rotation.

The root of this issue is Streets being the penultimate song.

At least we got UV and a new song in the encore.
  9. I agree. UV/HMTMKMKM + MOS in the encore made minimal variation acceptable.
  10. Compared with all those other pop girly artists, Gaga really can sing. Such a shame she has to come up dressed liked this at a U2 concert, don't really get why she has to come up and why she has to be half naked (not that I have a problem with half naked girls , but it doesn't add anything)

Other than that, very boring setlist.
  11. Actually, tonight's wardrobe was tame compared to what Gaga does ordinarily.
  12. She's obviously got something to plug as been a little quiet for 5 years.
