It's all a perspective thing. I see what you are trying to say, but in that case, an argument can made that Achtung Baby was a huge comeback after RAH, as well. And SOI after NLOTH.Which means U2 has made a "comeback" to start each decade. Which kind of makes the term stale... IMHO

    Achtung Baby was their huge comeback after RAH. That was the entire point of "From The Sky Down." The band said themselves that when they released RAH, the audience simply didn't get it. They felt they had to take a completely different direction and this direction is what Achtung Baby was born from.

    This theme was mirrored in the production of ATYCLB. There are several interviews in which band members say that ATYCLB was their last attempt at returning to form and that they felt Popmart had taken the ironic tone of ZooTV too far. And again, SOI can be seen as another comeback from the relative commercial failure of NLOTH. So it can be said that U2 has made a "comeback" at the start of each decade.
  2. Yes, but The Edge said Pop wasn't finished and wasn't as courageous as it supposed to be. He said there should have been more songs in style like Mofo. So not sure about it was too far.
    And as comeback I understand when band takes a break or split up and later they start again. U2 never stoped so it wasn't comeback.
  3. Pop wasn't finished, but the Popmart tour took their ironic and sarcastic personas too far, said by pretty much everyone in the band. Also, ATYCLB could have potentially been U2's last album had it not done as well as it did. Kite was pretty much their farewell song.
  4. But it's all about americans reaction on album called Pop and song called Discotheque. They didn't like it even if they didn't hear it. Just prejudice from the names. They didn't hear ot and didn't get the point of it at all. From european leg of the tour it was succesful but they didn't get the unprepared first leg out of heads and finished by thinking more about what americans say about than still having balls...
  5. I was just listening to the first songs of NLOTH this morning, I really loved them again. They all work great as album songs.

  10. Hey, hey... thats stereotyping. From a sales standpoint, that maybe so... But the fans certainly came out for the shows. And it did take them awhile to get all gears in place. Trust me, from what I've read in these forums, if most of you had seen the first few shows, you'd have plenty of critical feedback...
