    You're missing the whole point. I said that a big portion of the audience didn't get the whole ZOo TV concept, based on what I've read and what people (both close to me and not so much) who attended have told me. Some other posts in this thread reinforce my point.
    Your personal experience is irrelevant to my post since I said a PORTION of the audience didn't get it, and that implies that another portion did get it (maybe including you?).

    And yeah, one could say one show is good or bad without having attended it, just by listening to or watching a bootleg, reading a review, whatever. It's what opinions are all about - we're not voicing the "truth", just our opinion.


  5. Yeah , to me its ok , like most of Zooropa , it feels rushed to me , probably because it was…..

    U2 unfortunately didn't come back to the States in '93 , so I never caught it live.

    Had to wait a full 5 years until they returned , and that was with PoP , which I detested..….by then I was fully into PJ ,DMB , Radiohead and of course Oasis …so maybe I resent Zooropa a bit ??? lol

    I agree…I attended 10 ZooTV shows in '92 ( my Lord was it really that long ago ?????????)…and I always felt they were way over the top…maybe too much .

    Its heavy European , as is Zooropa , which makes sense as U2 are obviously European and thats cool and all ..it just didn't really "go over" with most Americans…a lot of American fans I remember felt like Bono was mocking Elvis at the end , "his fat old washed up pop star "….not saying he was , I just remember hearing that sentiment after some shows , especially Yankee Stadium for some reason ...

    I thought ZOO TV was great. I loved the spectacle of it all and I was as big of an 80's U2 fanboy as you could ever find. Guess I was ready to move on from the almost obnoxiously serious Bono and band of the Joshua Tree tour.

    Achtung Baby really resonated with me at that time in my life and I loved the presentation of the songs in the live show. Also loved the visual assault on my senses and for whatever reason, the Trabants even seemed just right to me.

    The show(s) was in a word... perfect.

    At the time, I considered the Outside Broadcast shows that I saw - specifically Ames, IA - as top 5 of all the shows I had seen. It's still in the top 5.

    I don't remember any of my friends at the time not liking the shows or not getting them, but I can imagine there were many others who still wanted the Conspiracy of Hope Bono out there and were having a hard time connecting the Fly to that other Bono.

    Oh well. I will say that could I go back and see either a J-Tree show or an Outside Broadcast show again, I'd pick the ZOO show and it would take me a half a second. No question.

    U2's best tour.
  9. The tour that made me go "WTF?" was Popmart. Didn't like it at the time at all. Too bad as it's one of my favorites to listen to now.

    As far as Zooropa, I liked it better when it came out than I do now. I don't think it's held up as well as AB or Pop.

    There are some goodies on there, but the album to me feels like a collection of random thoughts and b-sides more than a coherent idea.
  10. I've always thought that the main lack of this album is the shorten time they had to record it (and when the Zooropa leg began it wasn't finished yet). But for me is a good work, expanding Achtung Baby and ZooTv's sounds and ideas. Zooropa, Numb and Lemon are among their best songs ever.

  12. AB , the album is fantastic . The ZooTV tour was really good , and without question entertaining , but for me , it was far from "perfect" . Just my opinion. To each is own .

    The ZooTV show was way over the top for me , and at times , took away from the great music that AB was , is and will always be . AB is one of the greatest albums ever . Period . I just didn't feel the whole setup was necessary . Just go out and play the tunes without any gimmics etc .

    I actually like this tour , I&E more then ZooTV . I loved my shows this past summer

    As far as Pop , its safe to say I didn't like it . The PoP tour was a disaster . The big McDs arch , the band dressed up as the Village People , exiting from a huge Lemon .That was definitely a WTF and "huh" moment for me .

    They got so far away from who they were , (a small "punk band" as Bono would say) , that at that point in time (mid to late 90s) , the band didn't even know who they were anymore .

    U2 kept trying to change themselves , instead of being who they are , which is a great rock band .

    As Far as the JT tour , it was brilliant , same goes for Lovetown . I just wish the band toured the States for it .
