1. Originally posted by EDDMB:AB , the album is fantastic . The ZooTV tour was really good , and without question entertaining , but for me , it was far from "perfect" . Just my opinion. To each is own .

The ZooTV show was way over the top for me , and at times , took away from the great music that AB was , is and will always be . AB is one of the greatest albums ever . Period . I just didn't feel the whole setup was necessary . Just go out and play the tunes without any gimmics etc .

I actually like this tour , I&E more then ZooTV . I loved my shows this past summer

As far as Pop , its safe to say I didn't like it . The PoP tour was a disaster . The big McDs arch , the band dressed up as the Village People , exiting from a huge Lemon .That was definitely a WTF and "huh" moment for me .

They got so far away from who they were , (a small "punk band" as Bono would say) , that at that point in time (mid to late 90s) , the band didn't even know who they were anymore .

U2 kept trying to change themselves , instead of being who they are , which is a great rock band .

As Far as the JT tour , it was brilliant , same goes for Lovetown . I just wish the band toured the States for it .
A great rock band for sure. But what sets them a cut above the rest of the other great rock bands out there (and keeps them from being lumped in as a great "classic" rock band) is there need and desire to change, to mix things up, to keep things interesting... to challenge themselves. How easy it would be for them to follow the old great rock band formula and regurgitate the same 10 songs with different words album like so many do...

This, to me anyway, is what sets them apart, keeps them relevant and keeps their passion for doing it alive, while most other bands their age and with their longevity are touring the staples, the generic greatest hits shows, they are still trying to keep it fresh, innovative, and even revolutionary... The music speaks for itself, but this is just another small part of why they are not a great rock band, but the greatest rock band...

    Stepping off the soapbox now.

Its heavy European , as is Zooropa , which makes sense as U2 are obviously European and thats cool and all ..it just didn't really "go over" with most Americans…a lot of American fans I remember felt like Bono was mocking Elvis at the end , "his fat old washed up pop star "….not saying he was , I just remember hearing that sentiment after some shows , especially Yankee Stadium for some reason ...
I saw over a dozen shows on Zoo TV. It was sensory overload at first, for sure. But seeing them that many times you adjust and adapt and learn to focus on different areas, different things. If you only saw one show, I get that it could be overwhelming... But to have had the privilege of seeing as many as I did, I made it a point to focus on different places on different nights. After about 5 or 6 shows, it all became a beautiful vision...

Im just glad they got back to being who they are in 2000 and stopped the nonsense that was PoP .....by doing so they became relevant again . Vertigo was also a solid rock release .

Innocence is another great album , its too bad it was overshadowed by the whole Apple thing . It was quite the mistake .

Why would you go to 10 show if you think they're over the top...?
  5. And how could you listen to Dirty Day, let's say live from Sydney, and hate it?!

See, I think the "nonsense" is what kept them from becoming redundant (to the music annd to themselves) and helped bring them full circle back to ATYCLB and HTDAAB. I think their need to "dream it all up again" every decade is necessary to their creative process (and creative well being)

But there's no right or wrong here. Everybody has their favorite record and their least favorite... Personally, there's not one that I hate, but to me, and for my own personal reasons, nothing will ever touch Boy and October. I know many will debate me, but there's no reason to. It's a personal thing. The time. The place in my life. That's what it's all about. And Innocence brings me back to all that, too...

hold on , your parents ?????…ugh now I really feel old lol

Thanks for reinforcing my point Ed. Appreciated coming from you. And sorry about that, lol As a defense, I'll say that my parents are and look really young! My dad attended the first show ever in Spain (Joshua Madrid, July '87) when he was a bit less than 17 years old.
  8. Because I loved AB and waited 5 long years for my band to return to the stage in the US is why …plus I enjoyed the shows , especially the arena gigs...saying they were over the top doesn't mean I didn't enjoy them…..

Pop ? Now thats another story and the reason as to why I attended only 1 show in 1997
  9. Who said I hate Dirty Day live from Sydney ??

I thinks it an ok at best tune….nothing special , but I don't "hate it"….I just don't understand the adoration it receives on this site , as if its up there with All I want Is You…if you love it to death , hey more power to you .

    We always go back, right?

And I attended fewer shows on Pop than I did Zoo as well...

And the Zoo Arena shows were way more intense and intimate than Outside Broadcast, for sure!

Absolutely . When PoP was released its safe to say I had lost interest in U 2 and I was hooked on Radiohead , Oasis , DMB and Pearl Jam . Plus U2 didn't tour in the US for 5 years ('92-'97) so I moved on .

Beautiful Day brought me back into the fold .
