What an amazing and fascinating legacy he leaves behind.
One of the first songs I ever recall hearing and falling in love with at a very young age, maybe 4 or 5, in the early 70's was 'Space Oddity', and even at that age I knew it was a bit special, and my love affair with music commenced, as no doubt many others did too after hearing him, all courtesy of this man and his art.
A lot of the other artists and bands we all love today, maybe even our very own U2 perhaps wouldn't exist if it were not for him and his work, or certainly if they did, they wouldn't be quite the same artists / bands we know and love. One of my other favourite bands, Simple Minds even borrowed their name from the song The Jean Genie.
"He always did what he wanted to do. And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way. His death was no different from his life - a work of Art. He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift. I knew for a year this was the way it would be. I wasn't, however, prepared for it. He was an extraordinary man, full of love and life. He will always be with us. For now, it is appropriate to cry"
