I'm just happy Apocalypse Please is still getting played this tour, it's the only song they've had on rotation this tour that I haven't heard yet so I'm desperate to see it! The biggest issue with their sets this tour is how criminally short they are, 17 full songs when they did 19/20 in arenas last time round. Matt's voice has had its ups and downs on this tour, so that's probably why. Shame.
I just can't support that. After watching our boys knock out 2.5 hour shows at their age, and my other boys in PJ put in 3 hour shows. The boss at 3.5-4 hours. It's just unacceptable. They have enough material to play a full 2 hours or a little over.
  2. Absolutely. It's always been an issue with them. When I first got into them I would always defend them but over time it's become very hard to when it comes to their gig length. They play for about an hour fifty at the moment, but the drum and bass jam and other interludes chime in at over ten minutes. There's two songs worth right there. I do get the impression these are well timed to give Matt a little break because his voice isn't at 100% this time round.

It was marvellous seeing U2 play for two and a quarter hours in October. Even when Matt has been on form (with the exception of this tour 99% of the time) they still don't play as long as they should, and their now seven albums in. They give stadiums more of a go (24 songs last time) but the size of the venue shouldn't dictate how long the set is, and with tickets for this current tour being so expensive as well...it's very frustrating.
  3. Tickets are VERY expensive for what you're getting, I think. However, I do own both of their live albums and I personally find them both incredible listens and well worth the investment.
  4. I'm listening to Drones more regullarly since I got those tix for the first Madrid gig next month. I still find it mediocre as a whole (how not?) but I'm starting to appreciate some songs a bit more. The Handler, OneAftermath, even StarlightMercy (!!!) are decent songs. Not on par with Reapers (still brilliant!), Psycho or The Globalist, but still good. And Dead Inside is as catchy as Muse can get - once I listen or even think of it, it gets stuck in my brain for hours. Ahhhhhhh
  5. I keep going back and forth with Drones. One day I think it's a pretty lousy album, the next I think it's not too shabby. I know albums can be "polarizing" but didn't think it could happen within one individual!
  6. Great gig in Manchester last night. The rotations were Plug in Baby, Stockholm Syndrome, Citizen Erased, Resistance and Revolt. Stockholm and CE were absolutely massive. I'm a little gutted we missed out on Take A Bow but I didn't think they would play Revolt again, first time in the UK. That's another I can tick off the list.

The big one now is Apocalypse Please, the only song I've yet to hear from the sets this tour. Hoping they do it on the 12th or 14th in London. Knowing my luck they'll play it on the 11th

They played it twice in Amsterdam so who knows..
  8. I think Drones is a decent album, definitely much better than The 2nd Law. As a whole it's catchy while still being provocative. The Drill Sargent completely destroyed Psycho, rendering it unlistenable to me, which is an immense shame. Meanwhile, I became totally fond of Dead Inside because of it's masterful use of the word 'bereft' in the lyrics. I still find it entertaining that the word "drones" shows up in a large portion of the songs.
  9. Yeah I agree, it's not their best effort. I appreciate the story behind the song and understand the use of the Drill sections but they just don't work inside the song itself.
  10. This is the version they should have put on the album. Removing the Drillsgt pretty much turns my opinion of this song completely around. The classic riff we've been hearing for a long time finally gets the justice it deserves.

I still think the "your ass belongs to me now" may be the laziest set of words to ever come out of Matt's mouth. Hard to believe that this lyric and "You have no cares and I'm bereft" can exist on the same album.
