If a law does come along then we will be powerless to do anything about it but as there is no law we have nothing to worry about.   7. And what popmarter needs to remember is that we have a pretty active forum here. That'll stay no worries, because you wouldn't close the entire site off - if the law did come in, then as Gerard point out we would be powerless to stop it from being set up.

    I doubt any big-name (be it U2, the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, INXS...), is going to lose sleep over live recordings which were never released. And - if they're released they're usually edited, so they're not the same. Can he tell us if he can find Rattle and Hum, Joshua Tree Paris, Popmart Mexico, Vertigo Chicago, Vertigo Milan, Elevation Slane, Elevation Boston, ZooTV Sydney or Under A Blood Red Sky here? And even though you'll find the 1989 New Year's Eve show as well as the 1981 Boston show here too, it was circulating and being traded many years before it ever appeared through iTunes - plus half the soundboards haven't ever been released officially. Maybe shown on TV and played on the radio but they never made it to DVD - and like I said earlier, they're edited.

    Sure, we offer DVD trading too - but never any official stuff and mods / admins like Remy, Nate, Gerard, LikeASong, MirrorballBoy - to name a few do close down topics that breach those rules. Interference and other sites might not care less but we do - it's years and years and many, many manhours of work by a dedicated fan, and we would hate for it to disappear because of someone saying we offered official releases which may have been recorded on the same date (1051 of them is likely to have one or two recorded on days of filming or recording, which is purely coincidental) which, they wouldn't be because we come down pretty strict on what's been uploaded. And let me tell you this, as well: even a remix or B-side download link is quickly shut down - that's a remix. Not a studio track but a different mixture that is officially available to buy.

    If you feel that anything is not up to your extremely high standards, then take it up with a mod or admin if you really want and ask whether it's legal - I think you'd find it is. I'm not defending any site or going on anyone's side but in no way has the buying of official releases been affected in any way from the existence of U2start. Maybe torrents, FTP and P2P file sharing may have affected sales (but the real dedicated fans buy the releases) but not here.

  10. Why is it that everyone calls the record industry fatcats?
    I work in the entertainment business both in film and television.
    The majority of people on a project are NOT overpaid.
    In fact we are often UNDERPAID.
    The so called 97% that goes to the record industry "fatcats" goes to marketing, artists, graphic designers, distribution, engineering, studio rental and a million other things.
    Anyone who has ever had a real job should realize the complexity of any business enterprise.
    Look at whatever industry you are in, if your "product" could be zapped through the internet for free, would you be ok with it?
    If you were a plumber and somehow I could "download" your services instead of paying you, would it be ok?
    The self absorbed, self righteous sense of entitlement on the internet over music isn't just laughable, it' dishonest.
    I want something so I deserve it?
    Whatever, grow up and open your eyes.
    While you are at it, bitch about something worthwhile.
    I love music and more than anything I love this band. That being said, they don't owe me anything unless I paid for it.
    If I can get bootlegs, I'll grab them.
    If they start selling them, I'll buy them but I pay for music.

    I meant official material like studio albums (HTDAAB, ATYCLB, Achtung Baby) only. Other stuff I couldn't care less for.

    I am a computer programmer by trade in Visual Basic, PHP and Java.

    I've no problems giving my code out to people - because it's open-source, so I couldn't care less. If people want to modify it then great.

    I'm not posting any more in this topic - you lot debate about it.
