I did hope that the new album sounds as Experienced as Achtung Baby.
The sound on ATYCLB is very poor. Flat recording.

I think Tedder never meant to say that it sounds like ATYCLB. He said that it's as exciting as when he heard ATYCLB, U2's latest change in direction (maybe not revolutionary, but still a change from the experimentation in Pop).

Exactly. This album brought in an entire new generation of fans PLUS brought BACK older fans that left after zooropa and pop. IMO one of their most important releases whether you like the album or not.

the word accessible bugs me, I guess, because it sounds too safe.

Accessible can still mean U2 make a great album. It's good to hear they are focused. It's hard to say without any sound what it should be or going to be. They wanna get into the more experienced era. And indeed than ATYCLB is a good goal.

not necessarily. I would say SOI is really accessible, but not safe at all.

Agree 100%...As a longtime older fan I was very disappointed in Zooropa , and after a long 4 year wait we got Pop , which I absolutely hated...during that long nothing period for U2 , I moved on . I found Pearl Jam , DMB , Oasis and Radiohead , who were all in their prime in the mid to late 90s....

U2 appeared to be washed up...but they made a fantastic comeback with ATYCLB...sounding once again like themselves , (which is ok to do mind you) played arenas again and they were indeed back......Edge seemed very reluctant to even leave the riff in BD , as it sounded "too much like U2"... ..I love when bands sound like themselves , thats why we liked them in the first place...

U2 has so many sides, that's why i like the band. I never felt disappionted with an album. Accessable is ok to me, as long as it's cool. I love SOI, and hope that they surprise me with SOE.

So Danger Mouse is no longer involved? His tracks were the ones I liked most on SOI. I look forward to hearing what they're up to - I hope that they don't overproduce it and that we can get some good melodies and a bit of rock n roll, too.
