U2 - Songs Of Experience (2017)

  1. yeah I'm a big fan of the JT b sides, my favourite non album track from then is actually rise up, not even a b side, which sounds like it's in the first stages, maybe that kind of adds to it. That's just the released songs as well, imagine what else was getting thought up back then that's never seen the light of day.
  2. You also have to respect an artist's vision though. Just because you think all of U2's unreleased material is great doesn't mean they think it is, or that they want to release it because fans want it. I like that each album represents a distinct "era' of who and what U2 was at the time. If they released everything and put out albums all the time, I'd probably feel different about them.

    Plus, you can put me in the camp of thinking that a lot of their b-sides only sound good because they're known b-sides. Sweetest Thing and maybe an updated Silver and Gold could've been album-worthy, but to me the rest sound like wandering experimental pieces (at least from JT).
  4. Well, loosing interest, this November to may'17 is Star wars territory for me. This is the problem, the album is finished but they don't know what they want so they keep on delaying it cause they fear of not be revelant to the general public. Sounds like another SOA situation. This album won't be out till the middle of 2018 and tour to follow till lateb'18 early 2019. This should just finish this tour up and start new. To long between legs. They need to stop letting Edge mix the stuff cause he always writes more songs in the process and delays the album and working on the new songs then more likely scraps them. Kinda how OL delayed the SOI.

    I do agree to an extent about the albums representing an era, they definitely work with a quality over quantity mentality and that has its benefits too. At the end of the day u2 are my favourite band and I guess there selective process has something to do with it but I'm not even just talking b sides, I reckon there's songs better than the b sides and good enough to be on albums that haven't been released. I get it though u2 are probably there own biggest critics and that's maybe why we see these delays and change of directions.

    I do respect their vision. I used to think that the artist's vision was sacred. As the years go by, it's just a song. It's not the FBI, not life or death. Releasing the demos and outtakes brings some joy to a few people...great. If not, great. It really makes no difference, they won't be judged on releasing 500 demos or none.

    I just miss the days of the single. For both JT, R&H and AB if you collected all the singles, you had another complete album of b-sides (like them or not)

  12. I'm worried that Adam used the words "we've decided" as opposed to just saying that the album isn't finished. To me it says the album was at a state where the band may have called it "complete," but the band decided to pull it back into the studio. Of course, there are many ways to interpret this. The best case scenario could be that they have 12-15 completed songs, but are looking to slim that down to a final 10. Of course, a lot of people have predicted an early 2017 release followed by a spring/summer tour, so maybe this is nothing new.
