1. In the meantime, since the Rest Of The World is still greater than the USA, can we have
a little applause for the Chinese for helping big time keeping carbon emissions relatively stable for 2016 (+0.2%)?

While India and the EU still have rising CO2 emission:

China, the biggest emitter of CO2 at 29%, saw emissions decrease by 0.7 per cent in 2015, compared to growth of more than 5 percent per year the previous decade. A further reduction of 0.5 per cent is projected for 2016, though with large uncertainties*
    A "little" applause indeed, because:

Although the break in emissions rise ties in with the pledges by countries to decrease emissions until 2030, it falls short of the reductions needed to limit climate change well below 2 degrees Celsius. (…)
The Global Carbon Budget analysis also shows that, in spite of a lack of growth in emissions, the growth in atmospheric CO2 concentration was a record-high in 2015, and could be a record again in 2016 due to weak carbon sinks.
Prof Le Quéré [UEA] said: “Part of the CO2 emissions are absorbed by the ocean and by trees. With temperatures soaring in 2015 and 2016, less CO2 was absorbed by trees because of the hot and dry conditions related to the El Niño event. Atmospheric CO2 levels have exceeded 400 parts per million (ppm) and will continue to rise and cause the planet to warm until emissions are cut down to near zero.”*

Still a long way to go, but with the US possibly bailing out of the Paris agreement, it is good that China is showing the way.

And for all you climate sceptics, please note that the incentive for the Chinese is both long term economic as well as the
citizens demand for clean air! (Sounds familiar?)

    Best politics thread post yet!

Well. I am a white, heterosexual man, thats true. I also believe in climate change. And I did not and could not vote for Trump. However, I did not, could not vote for her either. So, if that makes me a racist, homophobic moron in the eyes of some, so be it. I have a thick skin.

I thought only alt-right hate mongers spewed such vitriol and name calling. I would never expect it from the tolerant and loving left side...

Relax, Johnny. Breathe... you're gonna be ok. You have no choice now. None of us do. We all gotta ride it out and hope for the best. Name calling aint gonna make a damn thing better. We're all in this together. Us rational folk, anyway. There's always gonna be the extremists no matter who is in charge or what side of the fence you're on. Don't be one of them...

You're being insulting and aggressive. This post is against house rules. Please stop! Theres no need we are all a part of this community
  5. Alex, I understand your frustration, but stop it with the insults and attacks to other members here. This will not be tolerated. There are other ways to express what you feel.
  6. Yeah, yeah I get you.

But when I keep hearing about how friends of mine have been harassed by people invoking Trump's name, it's hard not to be pissed off at the people who enabled this scenario to exist.
  7. But there's ways and means of putting your feelings across. Aimlessly attacking others isn't an option. Many people will understand your frustration, I get you, but if it irks you so badly just stay away from the thread - before we see another Politics Thread battle and it's closed forever.
  8. People are entitled to see things differently. Doesnt make them stupid. Or bad. Or racist. And when you go on a verbal tirade, are you really putting yourself on higher ground, or are you actually acting just like those who irk you? You're better than that, dude.

I have friends who were harrassed the same way when Obama got elected. I know an 80 yr old woman who was told by several african-American men that she would get 'a taste of slavery now' since Obama got elected. People are dumb. Just cuz someone got elected, doesn't mean anything is going to change. Trump is going to be like every other president - nothing major will change.
  10. No, Trump is not like any other President. This is not like electing Obama or Romney. In that case, you knew whoever won was going to maintain some values in the White House and respect democracy and the institutions.
The greatest magic trick Trump and his group pulled out is to make believe the people nothing particularly terrible was going to happen with him (to non-minorities, that is).
It's been one week since the elections and he hasn't even taken office, but there's already been more conflict of interests in his transition than the entire Obama administration in 8 years. He wants to take all his sons and his son in law to classified briefings, he wants to keep all his businesses and live in Trump tower while president, he wants to appoint people in the White House with direct ties to their boss' businesses.
Steve Bannon, the leader of the alt-right whose platform explicitly says that the white race is at risk because of "multiculturalism" in America is now chief strategist. Anti-evolution Mike Pence is VP, batshit insane Rudy Giuliani, who has earned millions working for foreign governments and exile groups (while hypocritically shouting "lock her up") is the front-runner for Secretary of State.
Twitter has banned accounts for alt-right members. So now not being a bigot is literally a requirement for Twitter, but not for the White House.
How is any of that the same thing as with Obama?
  11. Here's another taste to see Trump really is putting the worse of the worse in the positions they can screw people the most
  12. What a nutter.
