Joshua Tree Tour 2017
Legs (3): Leg 1 - North America, Leg 2 - Europe, Leg 3 - The Americas
Shows: 52
  1. My bet is on "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" for the European leg...

Even I'm a die-hard and I was AT the live debut of YBR, and was just standing there like "whaaaaaaaaaaat is even going on right now."

Have listened to it and i think it's really good. Maybe experiencing it live is different? Can you tell me why?
Electrical Storm is faster, has more power. Would be a great question to ask the band about ES.

I would love to have seen both YBR and ES live but I think they're just songs that not every u2 fan is into. Because of u2's wide range of songs and sounds they've got quite a divided fan base so there's going to be a lot of people in the stadium who think YBR is a creative step too far or that ES just doesn't cut it compared to the early days, then there's the casual fans who just want to hear hits. Then there's the fact that live as an audience member you can't really do much with these songs apart from stand and listen and they don't create the kind of intensity of certain songs to get away with it so much. Well that's my take on it anyway but I'd still like to see rarities Iike those live.

And then there are some who felt that MS, One and The Little Things were too much slow tempo to end a show. YBR and ES wouldn't change that much... as great as they are.

This is good to hear again, speaking as one who was at Chicago night 1 on 360 back in 09 and felt gutted the next night reading about how they played YBR, and I wasn't at the right show to see it...

Raises a good point about complaining about lack of setlist variety for us die-hard fans. Even though I was bummed that I didn't get to hear YBR (and similarly bummed that I missed ASOH and Little Things, once again being at Chicago 1 for JT instead of 2! ), I also got to hear BAD twice across both of those shows! Getting to hear one of their most phenomenal live songs at two different times, I can't really complain...especially cause it rocked the house much more than I'm sure YBR (or Little Things) did.

I guess I'm also guilty of suggesting Miss Sarajevo isn't working great this tour. My reasoning though is more than it's slow tempo. If for example we were to get Your Blue Room as an encore opener I'd be a lot more excited as it's a rarity and one I've never seen live myself and most people wouldn't have seen. Miss Sarajevo however is in the middle of its 3rd long stretch on a tour and isn't being performed to as a high a standard as the 360 or vertigo tour. The Little Things on the other hand I still love as a closer and I'm definitely keen to hear it when i see the show myself. So basically my argument would be tempo, atmosphere etc can be sacrificed for the right rarity but not for frequently played songs that have had there day. Having said that I'll certainly still be enjoying Miss Sarajevo if they do play it but I just have a lot of preferences, they can't play everyone's perfect setlist though.

I will say this about MS. When you see it live this tour, it fits and it works.

I do get what you're saying though, but honestly, if you wanna hear that stuff, they should open for themselves as The Passengers. Free up the precious slot for a gem.

Yeah I'm sure I won't be complaining once I've attended and I do agree they could definitely pick better songs than Your Blue Room freeing up the slot for as you say a gem. I still think the ultimate regardless of its tempo would have been heartland especially in the states. I know people have mentioned it's difficult vocal but Bono's coping fine with RHMT with a simple key change, think the same would work for heartland, what an encore opener that would be hearing they opening notes, but won't happen.
  10. Random thought that's probably been brought up but does anyone think they didn't show bonnaroo because of a planned DVD, would make sense as sales would surely have suffered if there was a full show available for free online.

  11. This makes me sad, actually. I honestly felt the creative team did such a good job with the multimedia footage at creating a narrative with each song that Bono didn't need to preface every song with a speech. As I mentioned in my reviews, the show has an AMAZING sense of pace because Bono cuts out a lot of the talking and lets the performances speak for themselves. Maybe people complained the shows were too short and Bono decided to fill it up with speeches...

And it seems it only gets speech heavy in the encore set...
