As time went on, I liked it more and more - for those exact reasons. It's a very intricate song, so much going on sonically, great lyrics, and by God, the drums! Now I adore it, in large part for the reasons I never used to care for it.

Then, somehow, in the way these things happen, I just woke up one day, put Rattle and Hum in the car, and I realised: Hawkmoon 269 was my favourite song on the album, and had been for quite a while. I'd just never acknowledged it.
lol too long... You don't listen to Pink Floyd right?
  2. Heartland is just too good. It's not underrated by us fans, but it's underrated in the grand scheme of things. Non-U2 fans don't know it even though it's probably as good as any of the non-singles off of JT, and the band have never really given it a second thought. It's a really good song.

One of there best in my opinion so in a way I think it's even underrated amongst the die hard fans but yeah definitely underrated amongst the more casual fans.

THE DRUMS!! They hit you like a truck. Great story btw Hawkmoon has always been one of my favs from R&H, since I was a kid, but I understand why you'd take some time to appreciate it. Glad you do now though

God, yes, a thousand times yes. Hearland and Hawkmoon are the true gems from that album!
  6. Hawkmooon is one of my fav U2 songs.... Don’t like Heartland, never understood why people here love it so much.
  7. About RAH, the only two songs I don't care too much are Angel of Harlem and Love Comes To Town, interesting, correct me if I'm wrong, those are the most played live from that album besides Desire (which I don't like it live btw).

All I want is you has been played more than when Love Comes To Town. I think angel Of Harlem is a great song but I agree I've never been able to get into when Love Comes To Town.

Because it's haunting, it features some brilliant guitar work by Edge, wonderful imagery lyrics, and some of the best voice crescendos and falsettos by Bono ever, and because it's never been played live and that always increases the fans' appreciation for a song.
  10. I think "A Celebration" is one of their early overlooked songs.

  11. Haha, actually I do! It just seemed that Hawkmoon (I felt at the time) didn't really go anywhere. It was building up to a point it never arrived at... Now, I appreciate that a lot more, and I like longer songs in general more. When I started out I was much younger (probably about 15 when I first listened to R&H) and was only just starting to develop my own taste in music. Nowadays, I desperately wish U2 would have more 6- or 7-minute epics...

I'm the opposite - Angel of Harlem is skippable for me (especially live - EXCEPT of course the brilliant performances with BB King's band) but WLCTT is a favourite. Wish it had stuck around for longer on i+e, sounded so nice to have it back...
