There's definitely some production errors going on in the single mix indeed.
I can't believe that the change from first chorus to second verse actually slipped through. And pretty much all the other things you already mentioned. Weird loudness changes, thin vocal sound.
On the other hand, if they ran out of time, at least they got out a more interesting mix than the sci fi one.
    THANK YOU.
  2. best thing enters at no 6 at worldwide i tunes chart, hmm, not bad..

Define a pop song? Surely there are more than a handful... She Loves You by The Beatles? Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison? Miss You by The Rolling Stones? Wonderwall by Oasis? Even Photograph by Def Leppard and You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC are defined as Pop songs...
Def Leppard even admits they are a pop band through and through.
  4. "Only" 500 k views on YouTube, was expecting more at this point, but its still good

Also. I hope the version we got yesterday IS the album version. Screw it. I got over the disjointedness and now love it. Stuck in my head all day.

This is where I'm at today, too. I absolutely love it. Do I think (hope) that a better final mix might end up on the album still? Yes. But I've been playing and singing it all day - such a great melody and joyful song.

Absolutely love the buildup of Larry's drums in the chorus - makes me want to dance. The contrast between the verses and chorus I actually like musically, even if the mix sounds cobbled together. And Edge's part near the end...sooooo good.
  6. Sci-Fi Soul Mix was mixed by Jacknife Lee according to Bono.
  7. Well that's a little disappointing, only because it decreases the chances of there being another mix out there. I'm wondering if the "more complicated mix" that Edge referred to yesterday is the sci-fi soul remix.

I see the SciFi remix being much more like a real band playing a song all at once, while the single remix is more like a complicated effort of fitting different takes, different sounds. But god knows what the band tries to convey in his propaganda
