    Morrissey is awesome, but not anywhere close to U2. "The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get," is one of my favorite singles of the 90's. The Smiths were pretty good, but no comparison to U2.

  3. At the very least he shouldn't have been in the GOOYOW single. Album version, sure, not my thing but whatever. Single version though? Definite no.

    Is he on the single version? Or is there one? I'm kind of confused as to what is and isn't a single nowadays...

    I like the Kendrick part but I'd like it better if it was all on one track instead of split over two, or better yet, in a short track in between.

    Yes.
    I like it as an intro to American Soul, I think it works fine. But as an outro to Goo is awful.
    If in the end is splitted in half it'll be as cool as One Tree Hill --> Exit.

  10. so, from all the tracks we have heard so far is it safe to say that this album is U2 coming/going with the current music trend. sounds more "poppy" and fresh than anything else before.
  11. I think we can like or dislike the new songs, but I don't understand why some people are using the adjective "fresh" to these songs. I mean, they are deliberately re-using the bridge of a previous song which already was a re-imagination of another song, GOOYOW owes its sound to the ATYCLB sessions, 13 is re-using "there is a light", etc.
    I'm not attacking the songs here or anything, just honestly curious.
    Perhaps I'm misinterpreting your use of "fresh"?
  12. From the 3 songs I've heard from this album, 2 out of 3 have been pretty good. I don't yet know what this means and whether I will like it as much as SOI, I guess I'm just waiting like everyone else.

    However, if I am going to critique the 3 songs that I've heard so far, I will say The Best Thing for me is the weakest. The problem for me is the mix sounding quite flat more than Blackout and Get Out. It sounds actually better on the music video and that music video itself also made me enjoy the song more, but I still feel like it needs a bit more punch. Whether they can tweak it a bit live I don't know, as sometimes these songs can and do transform when they play them on tour.

    I'm quite optimistic about SOE because I really rated SOI. I will admit I wasn't a fan of HTDAAB very much because it felt over produced. NLOTH was a nice balance, with some really nice layers, and ATYCLB is one of their best-back-to-basics album - actually quite similar to SOI in that respect. But I like SOI because there is consistent theme and story all the way through. HTDAAB gave a mixed message, and I just find in my opinion, U2's best albums are when there is a consistent theme and message from start to finish.
