  3. I know this stuff as I read loads of Edge interviews in Guitar World, Guitar Player, etc.

    I run the U2 Recording Yahoo group. Which doesn't mean I know everything nor think I do. Just means I learn TONS from all on the group.

    And I run the U2 Atomic sites. (soon to be all consolidated into one brand new site instead of individual for each member, as they are presently)

    For me, it's usually YouTube and Wikipedia lol, so my knowledge of technical stuff guitar-related (and U2 related) is usually based upon listening and improvising. But I'll probably check out some of those links you posted

    Thing is though, at the moment it's not the greatest concern of mine because I only have a cheap and cheerful Ridgewood (as I've probably mentioned before), a Zoom effects pedal and a Yamaha amp lol! Quality/genuine authenticity isn't a priority for me at the moment lol
  5. What matters is does the gear work for you. If what you have serves your needs, then you're set.

    You CAN get a variety of EDGE tones from gear different, more available and cheaper than his. Many of the alternate gear options are often spoke about on the U2 Recording Yahoo group, in case you wish to look into those gear options.

    Many of the Tribute Edges (The Joshua Tree (LA), The Unforgettable Fire (NY) and others... Use the AXE-FX to get many of the sounds that Edge has an entire rack to obtain.

    Wouldn't be surprised to see an AXE-FX in Edge's rack next tour.

    Definitely. I mean, just switching through the various default settings on the Zoom (GR1X or something like that), it's surprising how similar some of them are. I was upset though that there wasn't a setting accredited with being based on any Edge signature tones though! (there's a lengthy list that you get with it claiming certain tones to be based on famous guitarists, e.g. "The Page Crunch" (Led Zep.), "Kirk Lead" (Metallica) and one that's based on a Kurt Cobain tone, YET NO EDGE ONE! I did mess around and hit on one though, so no worries lol! There is one (which I've since made some minor adjustments to) which has something very "Mysterious Ways" about it though, which was a pleasant surprise...

    It makes me wonder, when I see some of the gear that people have on YouTube, like 20 different pedals etc. all combining to make ONE tone...

    As for the comments about the colours of the RIckenbackers...

    Check the colour setting on your TV mate. Or have you a bit of colour blindness? (hahahaha - just messing with you)

    A green and red Rickenbacker?

    The main Ric used, that Edge threw to the ground was his 1967 "Fireglo" finish Rickenbacker 330 12-string. Fireglo is a sunburst-like finish that is burgundy-ish on the outer edges and fades to amber/yellow-ish on the 1960's models like the one's that Edge has.

    The replacement also seen in the Boston DVD is a "Jetglo" (Rickenbackers name for black) RIckenbacker 360 12-string.

    Other Rickenbacker information...
    The 1967 Fireglo RIck is the one he had since R&H and was later "drown" when HQ flooded in Jan 2002 whilst U2 were playing the SuperBowl.

    The "Fireglo" Ric used for "Sometimes..." is a 1965 and not the aforementioned drowned 1967. The "Mapleglo" 330 12-string used for Mysterious Ways on the Vertigo tour was a 1966 model

    I remember that moment from the DVD, the narrator for the documentary on the Deluxe version, says that the first night was not a great performace of the band and also the crowd wasn't THAT excited..... hence why Bono jumped towards the crowd during The Fly and according to the narrator Edge threw the guitar at the end of Gone because the song and the whole show to that moment was way too acted!!! (referring to the DVD filming, he felt as the show wasn't real, like they had no liberty on stage.... or something like that!!!)
