For the people that say that they are rehashing complete parts of a previous tour, if you think about it, there was another tour where they recycled more than 50% of a previous tour. Songs, segues, setlist order, almost everything. Still, that tour turned out to be for me the peak of U2 that they will never top, not even with their ZooTV paraphernalia. Almost everything from the JT tour was recycled: Shows still started with Streets - IWF - ISHWILF - MLK - TUF, etc. but they added new songs, took away the horrible covers and toured with a living legend like BB King. R&H was the natural step forward after JT, so it made sense to still tour with those songs.
SOE is also a continuation of SOI, so it also makes sense to take those songs with you on the next tour. We can see both sides of the narrative. That part makes sense.
The reason I said I'm torn about this is that the similarities with Lovetown stop there. They were in their 28, 29's during Lovetown, at the top of their musical and creative abilities. I already accepted the fact that the band is not getting any younger and the performances are only going to get worse. That should be reason enough to compensate this with other factors like setlist surprises, removing what obviously didn't work in the last tour (I'm looking at you, SBS acoustic). From rehearsals, it looks like U2 is doing one step forward but two steps backwards after that. I'm optimistic, but I'm also concerned that these things that they are trying right now will soon be abandoned to return to even safer grounds.

I completely disagree with you On Sunday Bloody Sunday. The slowed down version worked really well followed by the SOI songs as I felt it was an attack on innocence. “I can’t believe the news today” and then an actual newscast and the bomb that ripped into Raised By Wolves. The slow Sunday made Wolves more frantic and packed more of a punch. I think it worked great.

Thats the Innocence part sorted. Plus the experience part and a few more tunes and should be a good setlist. What Im not happy with is Desire and the showman.
