I actually like there music but I’m not a fan of the way they go about touring etc now however you are absolutely right it is personal taste. There’s probably a lot of people that will be put off seeing u2 because they play so much new material, so it works both ways I guess and as you say there’s different moods with songs like satisfaction and 13 so I accept that.
Yeah, well, it's not so much of being a "fan" (mostly of their early studio work though ), but, in this case, it was about pointing out the idea of playing a 10 minute version of Satisfaction. It doesn't make much sense unless you are actually there in the audience dancing your ass off.
That is just so much fun! Perhaps not night after night, but I went two times last year and it was great. Just great. And such a thing is impossible to "read" from a setlist...

  2. How many shows of this tour you've seen in person or how many are you gonna visit?
And btw. do you like Zoo TV or Popmart tour? Isn't it boredom too?

Same argument as I made with the 10 minute version of "Satisfaction" in one of the posts above: the purpose of these thank you's is awareness of the One campaign. It might be boring to you, but having improved the lives of millions in Africa is something that deserves some respect.

One - and the "rambling" - is about compassion. Acknowledging our shortcomings and trying each day to be a better person. It is just so incompatible with the Stones rave of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" - although philosophically "One" and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" aren't that far apart...just a different take (and solution) to a the similar subject matte of compassion
  4. Me, Ive attended 10 big gigs this year and the setlist changed little or nothing to the previous concert did I care absolutely not .U2 are the biggest touring band in history for a reason they know how to make it work they know 95% of the audience will only see it once there is a few hardcore fans who travel and follow the tour but they are not playing to appease just them who are a tiny minority.

Yeah I understand what you’re saying. If you’re in that moment enjoying yourself you’re probably happy if the song went on forever. In a way it brings it back to the being there vs listening at home argument again. For me anyway songs like vertigo and elevation which I’m always asking to be dropped I always enjoy in person. I’d still like them to be dropped but it’s hard to argue with the band playing them when the crowd are always so up for them. There’s things that reading of a Setlist or listening to on a bootleg will never be captured. Anyway I listened in to the show last night and it sounded like a good performance from the band and a great crowd as well.
  6. Wow! What a show last night. Heard so much over the years of a loud Montreal crowd but I did not expect it to be that loud!

Happy to hear Gloria! Only change from the setlist from the Chicago (2) show with Red Flag Day being dropped.

Loved the Mr. MacPhisto speech tonight. Focused around the tariffs recently set on Canada by President Trump. Bono made way to explain the G7 Summit this upcoming weekend was hopefully to take time to discuss the 130 million girls not going to school but now it’s going to be all about tariffs on steel and maple (fuckin’) syrup! You can’t make this shit up.

18th show last night and this band never disappoints. Had a great spot on the rail about a 1/3 down from the E Stage.

    Time for some sleep!!

It is indeed a take on the good old "being there vs listening at home" argument, be it another thing to only "read" the setlist from home

Talking about setlist...it seems that they still have to remind themselves

People still can't seem to grasp the fact that if you tune in here every night, of course the show will get redundant. But for the the majority of those attending the shows, they aren't following along with the set lists and are getting an amazing night of music...

Here's my question: How many in here that are bitching about the "boring" setlist a)have seen the show live yet, b) are still going to see it, despite it being "boring", and c) going to see more than one show to further bore themselves?

I jumped, danced and sang myself hoarse in Atlanta. As did about 15,000 other folks in the crowd. And most were singing every word of the new songs... Listening to the show and following the setlist is such a one-dimensional way to experience this spectacle, and a narrow and tremendously obtuse way to judge this show. As is comparing it to Pearl Jam, or Springsteen, or blah blah blah...

I agree for the most part. I stopped comparing them to pj years ago because it’s not a fair comparison. They approach live shows in a different way. I wouldn’t call this boring however I can’t help but to feel slightly disappointed with the zero rotation. Let’s be honest, we don’t know how many shows our boys have left in them. So for me the more songs that get played the better. Plus this tour is shaping up to have the smallest amount of unique songs played. Having said all this, my excitement for my shows is at an an all time high and I can’t wait to properly judge it by being there.

I get the rotation thing, I do. But I also made it a point to try and stay out of all these set list parties for the most part until my show... and honestly, once I was at the show, even though I pretty much still knew what was coming... it still blew me away. And if I could, I'd go see it again - probably from way up in the cheap seats to get a different perspective...

Unless you're going to see 10 shows, you'll still be as bright eyed as every time you see them live. I promise you, The Showmen will give you front row to their hearts...
