What a dream that would be. I thought up until a certain point on the I&E tour they had been getting a good balance of rotation and playing rarities, near the end of the tour it went back to the usual suspects in the rotation slots. With TJT tour we still got the rarities with TJT tracks but didn’t get the rotation and now with this tour we aren’t getting too many rarities and we’re not getting much rotation either but really even going as far back as elevation right up until I&E the rotation and rarity level wasn’t bad and at some times was great, better than its been for the majority of there career. I think/hope a few years break will set the band in a new direction, give them fresh ideas both in the studio and when it comes to touring. I do actually like and appreciate what they’re doing now but I couldn’t call it perfect or say it was my ideal way of going about touring or the Setlist in general.
    Yeah.

I think SoE hints at a sound they haven't touched on in a while, or maybe ever, and I hope they chase that. I'm talking the sound of songs like The Book of Love, Little Things, songs that don't necessarily jump out at you, but let you crawl in and sit with them for a while.

I also hope that Bono continues to write as though he'll never hear what people think of his writing. If he's sincere about that, and that's why (I think) the lyrics on SoE are so great, he needs to keep that up.

  2. Got a full tour's worth of bootlegs with these, my man
  3. I didn’t even realise that when i was writing it but still I’d love for them to be part of the same show again in the future. Not one of they songs has been played enough since the elevation tour. The Fly has probably had the most outings I guess since then and even that has been well underplayed.
  4. personally for me, my thinking is sure they could change stuff in the setlist and there are a lot of songs they could put with this stage, but im fine with it. the show i went to was fantastic. at the same time, whenever the next album/tour is, you would hope for something different but we’ll see!

It's a great show for sure, but maybe we talk about the setlist so much, because we know this tour had a lot of potential & even though U2 deliver an amazing show, I personally feel like there's potential wasted.
Maybe the reason why they didn't shake up the setlist so much (we did get Acrobat though) is because they are touring non-stop from 2015 (add to that a new album & Bono's health issue) & they didn't have as time as they would want to dig deeper in their catalogue.
Let's hope they bring back exciting setlist choices for a next tour after their well deserved rest.

It was 20-25 years ago. Look even further back at Boy, October, War and Unf. Fire setlists. There is not a ton of variation. In fact the basic setlist is the same for the most part for each of those tours (with the occasional setlist mix up). U2 were not rotating and playing tons of songs even in their prime. Why do we expect rotation from a band that has never been much for setlist rotation? They have made some efforts on a few of the more recent tours, but even then, the basic songs and setlist were very similiar with very little variation for each leg of those tours.

U2 have always worked this way. Why do some of you expect different when they are in their late 50's?

They can drop the JT songs, since the played a JT tour in between. It’s just to bad they played some songs during the JT tour which are still in the list now.
They should not have played those tracks during the JT tour, or they should drop them during this tour...

They can keep it in the show. It is fine, in Europe we are all having a great laugh over the States. That is not the point....

Speak for yourself. Not everyone is laughing...

And although AS was awesome in the States, I think I understand why they play a different tune in Europe...

    It was satire...
Although the late shows are brilliant....
  11. I’m quite glad that having dropped American Soul and LIAWHL they decided to keep the SOE songs at 8 with the inclusion of RFD and SOL, it’s a no brainer for me which duo I prefer even if I’m not quite as keen on SOL live as I’d hoped. It would be ideal though if you’ve already attended an American show and have a European show still to come (or already been to one of them too) then you’ve not missed out on anything.

Well I'm glad your setlist charting gave u2 permission to play what they want!
