Definitely - to call it concise barely does it justice lol...

they are a factor but I just don't like the 3rd leg (apart from the 2 chicago gigs). The gigs are way too relaxed and lazy.

Don't have it, will have it within some minutes...

  8. Review for:-

    Boston, 2005-12-05

Chosen by Ali, 3rd Leg Vertigo Tour (N. America)

    Sound

Borderline. Listenable, but that's about it. Again, as with Reggio Emilia, better through headphones than in the car. 3-stars only; certainly not the higher ratings suggested by other listeners. Far better quality boots exist.

Some good audience noise however. Which leads me to:-

    Audience

I don't usually single them out, but for an American audience, I thought this crowd were very good. In-time (most of the time) and singing along with great gusto. Feedback to Bono (eg in Pride) was excellent also.

    Performance

Average. But at this point I have an important point to make.

I think it's easy for us dorks to forget that we annihilate these bootlegs and performances. Most people will only ever see one show per tour, if they're lucky. Certainly, most people will not then go home and download 100's of bootlegs and dissect them to the last note.
I think someone has observed already (if not for this boot then for another (I get to read them a lot...)) that U2 rarely put a foot wrong live. Occasional wrong-notes and a bit of Bono-voice-bashing besides, they are consumate and, bluntly, fucking awesome live. No band touches them in my opinion.

Therefore, when I say average, that is intended as high-praise. I enjoyed this show. There are better shows for sure, and there were sloppy parts, but average U2 is very good. Let's not lose sight of that.

I can guarantee that is you were at this show, you would have had a ball.

    Highlights:-
    + Vertigo
    + Gloria (yes, I know, I bashed it in this topic, but it is rare on the tour and was performed well {not the best; Gerard mate, you're right about East Rutherford; but good still}
    + LAPOE
+ Transition from SBS to Bullet one of the best I've heard
+ The honesty and Edge-baiting before ISHFWILF
+ I will not tire of UTTEOTW
+ I like Yahweh and '40' as closers, even if Bad is even better
+ Speeches were not as predictable as they were at many other shows; quite a few changes. Made me listen to them again; as you would the first time you went to a Vertigo gig

    Not so good
    - Nit-picky, but the transition from LAPOE to SBS was not as smooth as it could be
    - Mysterious Ways and WOWY - Bono sounds sloppy - knackered?

    Overall

There are far better boots from this tour, both in America and from stadium gigs.
But the varied setlist and refreshing honesty from Bono make it worth a listen. Then you can decide if you keep it or not. I will keep it on my iTunes system, although it's off the iPod.

Same here, I used to only want to listen to stuff that appeared to be the best quality, but now I've realised that a lot of the lower ranked bootlegs aren't actually that bad for quality, and with a lot of 3-4 star stuff the quality isn't as bad as you'd think PLUS there's often rarer songs to be found...

I'd like to think that what we thought was similar lol, except you managed to summarise it in about half as much space lol!

What does it take to "upgrade" the rating? IMO 3/5 was a harsh rating.

Mine was Gloria. Haven't heard a live version of that one since JT/Lovetown, so it was a nice new addition.

As my review stated, Gloria was my "jewel in the crown". When you apply the "less is more" approach to classic gems like this where you play it infrequently you get very high quality renditions. This was a perfect example. Everyone wanted to play it at this show and it showed in the performance.

I doubt it too. As I recently posted in the overrated song topic, it's one of those songs now that people expect. Maybe not every night hopefully, and prey it's one of the shows I go to....

I know what you guys mean about BD, but didn't you love the snippet in this show?
