Your answer is somewhere in that question...

Ok not an outcry about those specific songs but definitely a discontent with shorter setlists - they could play any number of different songs there - we've had Gloria, ABOY, TUF, The Fly - why not all of them
  3. After seeing all the changes, with basically 70% of the tour done, I am calling this the lamest U2 tour since the last one. Which was probably the lamest one of their career.

Before you call me out, I have thought about this in depth and it's not just "hating" on the band. I have been a diehard fan for many many years, and am not one to think they are past their prime, or some other nonsense. I thought the I&E tour was their best since ZOO TV and one of their very best tours of all time (that I've seen)...

But the TJT30 shows were mainly uninspired. Yes it was cool hearing the side two songs we haven't heard in so many years (But why ignore them for so long?). Everyone knows it was a "contractual" tour, since the E&I was delayed for so long...which leads me to...

They decide to do the TJT30 shows, because they need to re-examine the SOE after the Trump election and who knows what other reasons. The basis of entire tour was always going to be an "extension" of the I&E tour, and I loved the staging, so I was fine with that. Add in that it was a limited city tour (the I&E tour) so it make sense to use the same staging, etc...

However, it seems as if they were struck by the PopMart curse of possibly not being prepared. The tour starts with a bang of 27 songs, BUT a major section is just a repeat of 2015. The first half is almost the same, (same structure for sure) and the second half is very similar. Yes, we got a new "opening" and Acrobat is great, but the ending is one of their weakest, and is still struggling as the tour draws to a close.

Now with the majority of the dates done, they start mixing it up. All the prior excuses of "It's a performance or theater or whatnot" excuse about the screens and artwork, etc...are all tossed out the window, when they can come up with new artwork/screen stuff seemingly by the day, we are getting major changes / additions to the setlist this late in the game. Now Willie is saying the final show will be totally different than I&E (I don't take him 100% seriously, like no Beautiful Day, no COBL, no One?) It seems like they took a bunch of "it's the same as I&E criticism way late, and are making changes just in time for the videotaping. Whoo Hooo. Too bad for all those that bought tickets early / mid tour.

I am not bitter. This tour, I knew something was up, and saw the least amount of shows I have ever seen for U2 in a single tour, since ever. (Two, the same number I saw on War and TUF tours). I have been working on a multicam since May, and it's been a struggle just to get motivated to finish it. (I will ONLY because I collected footage and feel for a couple of the people that really helped gather it)...

But I am HOPING U2 goes away, ditches any thoughts of "Songs of _____" and really comes back in 3 years with something as fresh as the DISTANT "Songs of Innocence" and that tour. LOL.

tl;dr I am hating on U2's last two tours.
  4. the fly needs more rehearsals IMO

I do understand what you're saying, and it's really odd as to why they decided to change things up 3/4 of the way into the tour (it would have made more sense to maybe do these changes at the beginning of the European leg). I don't disagree with you, but as someone whose first tour was EI, I was pretty happy that they played that section that was recycled from the IE tour. Maybe it doesn't have the same impact that it had on the 2015 tour, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Perhaps that's part of the first time experience.
  6. I agree with Chrisedge's thesis, and would like to subscribe to his newsletter.
  7. I enjoyed the innocence section a lot, but thats just because I had never seen it and I'm not really mad because they were great shows.
But if it weren't for the fact that I have yet to see the new setlist and if I had seen I&E in 2015, I would probably be mad with my earlier 2018 shows
  8. You also got to remember, the American leg of the tour hit a lot of cities that they didn’t hit on the Innocence tour, which is maybe why they wanted that included in the set, for those cities I didn’t get to experience it the last time around
  9. Every city after Manchester has already had an Innocence stop.

    Yet no Florida or Texas.
