Most overrated U2 song

Exactly. Granted, their is no real melody, and the lyrics are vague. But the emotion behind it makes it one of their best.

Same goes for Larry's drumming when it really explodes, that brings the physicality out of it, and when Bono starts his "no, no!" bit that just brings the tears. All of this is carried by Edge's melody. The lyrics are a nice piece of work, I think, as someone who writes, in particular poetry. BUT the emotion of the song is what always gets me, but all of these factors go into the over all feel of it. one of U2's best numbers, wish I could have seen them close a show with it.

Despite what you might think of it, it played an instrumental role in the explosion into the U.S. and outside Europe for that matter and for that it holds a special place for me. But each to his own...

on the other hand, am I the only fan who really has never thought himself, "wow this song really isn't that good"? that thought has never crossed my mind when it comes to U2, I have never not liked a song, in fact I can get into every one of their songs, I fucking love the band, not trying to go into a "who's a bigger fan" but are there any out there who feel like me and are just, for lack of a better word, obsessed? haha

I'm not trying to say that I listen to them all the time, I don't, but idk I guess it just strikes me as somewhat odd hearing "fans" kill some of these songs haha. but I understand that fans have the absolute right to criticize since we probably own these songs more than the band does, in a weird way. I'm also not a blind follower of U2 but I think in terms of their songs, they really are the best at what they do as a band. guess that's it for now haha

It's one that reaches out to an awful lot of people in more ways than just musically. Granted, it's not a musical masterpiece in that Edge plays about 6 notes the whole way through and it's really a glorified take of a 3 chord trick BUT whenever I hear it, it stirs something inside me. I agree about Bad - it's a great song for me, end of. And what you say about liking/not liking different songs, I love the band for sure BUT there are certain songs etc. that aren't as good as others they've done. I mean, married couples VERY RARELY spend their entire lives together in perfect harmony (although I recognise that it does), but the ones that succeed are the ones who can put aside their differences and love each other for being who they are, for all their faults and their beauty. I think that's what it is to love music, and different bands etc. - I may not like some of their work as much as stuff that I love more, but it doesn't stop me liking the band as a whole and respecting all their work
