  1. Not to be that guy, but Bono isn't really singing anything super well anymore, at least in comparison to how he once sounded. Even comparing how he sounds now to how he did in 2015 there's a drastic difference.

    I think if you enjoy how he sounds now, you won't mind how he sounds in three years either lol.

    I still don't think they're doing an AB anniversary tour...

  4. I honestly think people are looking too far into this and it's just U2 capitalizing on the other album/era that was their biggest and best to help with a change in the setlist.

    Especially if that rumour about the Experience DVD having NO tracks that the Innocence one did is true. What better way than to bring back songs that are next on people's lists to JT songs? Not to mention many of them are easy to spin into the "Experience" theme.

    I don't think there's any sort of marketing scheme behind this, I think it's just U2 doing a dive into the part of their catalogue that makes the most sense.

  5. I don’t think it’s an unfair suggestion but I would say the last few years and particularly the songs they’ve performed have shown us Bono’s ability to adapt vocally, I think in 3 years or whenever they’re back he will successfully adapt again.

    But man, it`s so cool to hear these songs !! I`d say enjoy
    PS this does not mean i`m thinking this might be last tour. Or maybe they are worried about Irish press coverage or something else.
  7. Yeah, that could be the case, and we might not see anything new until after that anniversary period has passed, if anything at all. I personally am starting to think that all this AB stuff might possibly be for a future fan-club gift compilation for the 30th anniversary of AB/Zoo TV/Zooropa which would make sense, but who knows. Though Willie is definitely cooking something up for the next go-round if there is one... personally I think that's entirely provisional though as obviously these things need to be designed and planned awhile in advance.

    I don't think the band know what they're going to do themselves yet - they certainly need a break and some extended downtime, plus our bank accounts need a break too for most of us no doubt. And it looks like Larry definitely has his eye on doing some more acting work if he can in the next few years. I'd wager they'll see how they're all feeling in a couple of years time for something thereafter, whether Zoo TV 2 or something entirely new, and see if they're collectively up for it.

    I think they could have one more big mega 'f##k off' sized world tour in them before they wrap it all up - but it has to be worthwhile artistically for them to do it - they're not like many other big bands / artists who'll just put out any old stuff and do it for kicks and money, they're artists, perfectionists, and know very much that they are leaving a legacy in the history books for years to come, so something new from them at this point in their career is going to be an almighty challenge for them I think - let's face it they clearly struggled putting SoE together to a point where they were happy with it, but they finally did put something out, and it was something to be proud of imho. But how do they follow that up in their 60's coming up shortly, who knows? And I do feel that SoI / SoE sees U2 completing the circle somewhat, it's even hinted at with the house at the end of the current show... ending the show back to where it all began - for Bono at least. What else could be left to say? I'm sure there could be plenty of things, you don't stop living and experiencing just because you're in your 60's. But I couldn't hazard a guess as to what 60+ year old rock stars with U2's integrity have to write about in the future that they haven't already said and done, but I'm sure I will probably be pleasantly surprised a few years down the line just as I always have been.

    But perhaps they would actually be happy to settle for doing some sort of Zoo TV 2 and just have an absolute ball of it for a year or two as a way to wrap it all up, I certainly wouldn't complain, but you know by the time they get to it, they're going to be in their 60's and whatnot... I dunno how that will work out and look to be honest, perhaps it's best they just leave it be and not tarnish the memory of what was a legendary tour the first time round, afterall it would be impossible to top that tour or even come close to it, but like I say, if they ever do do it, I'm down for it, and I'd wager most people here would be too.

    I will say this though... when U2 have decided to call it a day in terms of touring, I don't think they will fanfare it and big it up that it's their last tour like many artists / bands do. For one they don't exactly need to do that on a commercial basis, and two, they're classier than that. I think we'll only know about it and realise afterwards. So I'm going to London tomorrow with the mindset that it could be my last ever U2 gig... but probably and hopefully not ;-)
  8. I would so love to hear Dirty Day in London this week. Can't help feeling it makes sense to highlight songs recorded and conceived in Berlin for the narrative on the video shoot next month.

    Very good point Dean, he really has adapted well with his age. He does not sound like the boy in 1980 anymore but like fine wine he aged into a Sinatra style sound.


  10. Three years is indeed a long time, considering Larry's back, Bono's health, etc..and Adam is doing the dad thing. They're all talking about doing other things during the upcoming break. I still think Bono is singing better now than during IE and JT17. I wonder what they're still contractually obligated to do, and over what kind of timeframe. Back to his voice tho, I think he could do it, even after an extended break
