  1. Here's my first U2 record...bought at age 13... (1984)



    BTW: Hope to pick up that NLOTH clear vinyl tomorrow at Concerto Amsterdam...
  2. I was a little younger when I got into u2 but HTDAAB came out when I was 13. I bought a bootleg around that time called ‘All of this can be yours’ which I used to play to death despite a few repeated songs from different locations. It’s actually quite cool how my u2 memories help me link back to certain times of my life. If someone was to ask me on the spot what I was doing at 13 I would probably struggle to remember but linking it back to when music was released I can piece certain parts together more easily.

  4. Yep that’s it, I’ve not listened to it in ages as well except for sticking mercy on every now and again. Miracle drug was my favourite on it, loved the little story before it.

    i think the same for the sound ( vinyl rules) and for the headphones ( it's you and the vinyl.world is outside - and with wireless headphones you can also do the dishes)

    and...about the age.....i was 12 when i started with U2......in 1984

    I love this album, it has kept me engaged for these past ten years. It is not a blind love though, I struggled with it for a while, but something kept pulling me back. "Magnificent" has been stuck in my head ever since, as well as "Unknown Caller." This is an album that nearly reaches genius, you can hear it in the background, tucked away somewhere in that riad in Fez. The best version of this album, I believe, is the Linear version. This comes as close as possible (for now) to hearing that very experimental, mystical record being made in Morocco. Winter is a gem and I wish it was on the vinyl, but oh well. The tracklist for Linear flows incredibly in my opinion. Having "Unknown Caller" open the album would have been quite a statement, as would have "Moment of Surrender" being the lead single. I recall a few years ago one of the band members calling this an esoteric album and I agree with them. It's an album that takes time and maybe some context, but worth the effort. Super excited to have this on vinyl! U2 is the best band ever!

    Really well put. I agree. Approaches genius/masterpiece level while not quite achieving it.

    But man do I remember the anticipation for this album and my first listens so well. It made more of an impression on me initially than either SOI or SOE, though I'm not sure now how I'd rank those albums against each other today after repeated listens.
  11. In canada I can't find a vinyl copy for less than 57 dollars. This isn't fair, I want MOS. Grr.
  12. Just got the clear vinyl. A bit pricey, but what the heck. On the first two tracks I didn't notice much a difference from the CD but the mastering on MOS is MUCH better. Noticed a lot more flavours on the outro, some groovy bass there.
