Joshua Tree Tour 2019
Legs (1): New Zealand, Australia and Asia
Shows: 15
  1. The music industry has been releasing music on a Friday for a while now, so maybe we will get something tommorow. Downloads that is.

The rumour mill has been quite leaky for as long as I can remember it. Paul used to casually say "Oh, we'll see you next year then!" and things like that when talking to fans.

Remember the five years when the No Line on the Horizon follow-up was always right around the corner?

Now THAT was infuriating. Thank God SOE didn’t come with a “new album coming soon!” Message

  3. According to U2.com news, the announcement was on a Friday, Jan. 5.
The announcement of i+e in 2014 was on Wedneysday Dec. 3.
e+i NA was a Wesnesday also, Nov 1, and the European dates were announced on a Tuesday, Jan 16.

So, for the last three tours, the announcement day actually never was a Monday.

Not sure why the announcement article on U2Com is dated January 5, as it wasn't announced that day at all. The announcement was on January 9, which was a Monday.

The article at U2.Com: https://www.u2.com/news/title/the-joshua-tree-tour-2017/news/9 is dated January 5, but the first comment on the page is from January 9 which suggests it wasn't there before that time, and you can see the press release in a variety of places and all say January 9. https://investors.livenationentertainment.com/news-events/announcements/detail/385/u2-the-joshua-tree-tour-2017

I wonder if Noel Gallagher and Bono actually gave those quotes lol.
  6. Getting nervous again now there hasnt been much hype about the possible announcement over the last week.

I think if/when the announcement comes we should get some radio stations giving us a teaser of a concert announcement a day or two before.

With that title I don’t think we’ll see anything new. I think the reason they’re doing JT again is because it was the easiest way to get back to Australasia. They wanted to play there but it had to be profitable so it couldn’t be ‘new’ it couldn’t be arena’s either, not enough in it taking E&I there, so they’re left with TJT stage and most of the TJT production, that’s my guess. Sometimes the artistic aspect isn’t the #1 priority, the band didn’t feel comfortable leaving it so long between visits and this is the easiest and most cost effective solution to get there (within the boundaries of a u2 show which still have to be big ie huge screen, they’re not going to play a club tour), that’s my guess. Plus I think the band will enjoy it more this way, it wont feel like so much work in what was supposed to be part of a break year if they go back and do something they’ve already perfected.

I agree, I think you are probably right on the money.
  8. The just say it's rumoured, not that it is going to happen. So nothing new or revealling at all.
  9. Yep, probably got their info from U2songs like the rest of us.

The hype won't start until it has been communicated that there will be an announcement. At this point it still appears it hasn't been rescheduled, so there wouldn't be any local hype yet. The first time the announcement was rescheduled it took several weeks for them to find a date that worked for them. They have to work with local concerns such as holidays, other announcements already set by other artists, and what works in each location for press. (I know some will say it's U2, but do you really want to be the one telling another artist they have to reschedule all of their plans because U2 are in town and late announcing their own things?)
