Joshua Tree Tour 2019
Legs (1): New Zealand, Australia and Asia
Shows: 15
  1. It’s a bit more than having laws we don’t agree with isn’t it? People are being denied basic human rights but what I will say is laws don’t mean that represents the views of everyone in that country, maybe that’s what you were getting at. Still u2 playing there would lead to a lot of questions.
  2. Congrats to everyone who got tickets yesterday, and good luck to those trying in general sale

  3. U2 would never play Saudi. It would be like kicking Amnesty International in the balls.
  4. More positively, hearty congrats to all getting tickets and making plans. Excited for you (and green with envy.) We'd love to go, but it clashes with the Clonakilty marathon

    Enjoy every minute.
  5. Why not? they play the US/UK often enough who are their biggest weapons supplier .
  6. Supplying weapons to a country, even one like Saudi, is nothing compared to denying your people basic human rights, that’s the issue here.
  7. Lol they played Russia on 360, not much of a difference there either and it wasn't much different then to now
  8. They've also played Brazil lol.
  9. To be fair, the US has elections, freedom of speech, a free press, women' rights & gay marriage. There are myriad problems in America but Human Rights are generally secure there. (I know: there are a thousand exceptions.) But yep, obvs selling guns to these lads is bad.

Russia's legislation on gay rights has changed significantly since 2010, along with increasingly aggressive behaviour internationally - ask Georgia, Ukraine & Salisbury. We won't mention elections or referendums.

Acts play or boycott these places all the time. Madonna & Radiohead think Israel is ok, while Pink Floyd/ Roger Waters don't. Robbie Williams played Russia, while Elton John probably won't (but he did play the USSR...) Very few venture to China.

I personally wouldn't like to see fans anywhere denied the joy of a U2 gig
but - given their worldview - some of these places would seem very unlikely.

How can people from the US/UK criticize other countries that have a poor human rights record whose own governments past and present left and right support the regime of these rogue nations by doing multi trillion dollar arms and trade deals it stinks of complete hypocrisy and false virtue signalling.
  11. Based on the experience that politics discussions easily and almost always get nasty... Can we please keep these MUSIC forums politics-free, please?
