  1. Thank you to dylbagsz and Rummy...
    I live on the east coast and was contemplating driving a 9 hour round trip to see Noel Gallagher and SP next week. Lots of time and money for a hotel plus ticket price. Definitely not worth it after I saw Noel's setlist. I was fortunate to see Oasis once in 2005 and once in 2008 and Smashing Pumpkins in Seattle last August.
    Thanks again for helping me to decide not to make the long trip!

    Listen I am an Oasis fan, but they are what they are - it might be all braggadocio and bluster but have you seen their official movie Supersonic as they themselves call themselves council estate kids who took lots of drugs but wrote brilliant songs. And I agree with that.

    They got immensely popular that's true enough, but so did The Osmonds, The Bay City Rollers , One Direction etc so that doesn't count for much

    My original point was that they are just council estate stoners and that's what they'll always be - as shown in their current and constant behaviour.

    Awful people but great band

    Interesting that Noel Gallagher lives next door to Adam Clayton in one of the most affluent areas in London and doesn't do drugs anymore either does his neighbour ,and as for his behaviour it's part of a well crafted marketing ploy both he and his brother know how to get headlines for maximum publicity and it's always when they have new music out .

    If you are telling me that Noel doesn't do any weed then I am going to have to tell you that I do not believe that one iota.

    He may have given up the 'harder' drugs but we'll never know that unless we drug test him at every show - and to be honest, I don't care.

    Where you live doesn't represent anything at all - the more money you've got the more chance you have of living somewhere 'nice', that's all.

    And as far as the 2 brothers staging rows and conflict to sell their music and tours - nah I'm not having that either. They DO NOT like each other. They may LOVE each other but they don't like each other. Sibling rivalry an' all tha'.

    I'd like to see them reunite and write a new Oasis album but maybe Noel has had enough.

    It possibly could happen if Noel needed a cash injection or he gets sick of being a support act and playing to smaller audiences.

    Man, if I'd wrote Live Forever and then I was getting off stage to let the main act take centre stage then I would be a little pissed to say the least.

    Agreed. The Cleveland show is a 3 hour drive for me. Won't be bothering myself after seeing those setlists. I saw Oasis 3 times, was a huge fan, and SP once (but it was only Billy and Jimmy + others musicians). Noel's set is short (to be expected) and not very good, and I'm not really a big enough SP fan to put in that effort to travel to Cleveland on a Monday night (should've seen them last year when they came to Columbus).

    He's only supporting U2 because he is buddies with them it's just an extended holiday to him ,every single one of his solo albums has been Number 1 in the UK something U2 haven't achieved since 2009 and as for him and Liam been just working class stoners U2 came from very humble backgrounds aswell, Dublin was a very poor and desolate place to live in the 60s and 70s if you could afford a Car or TV you were called a yuppie.

    Sorry mate you are wrong about U2 being brought up in desolation.

    Dublin had the troubles yes, but the band themselves admit that they lived away from the desolation in 'nicer' middle class areas - look in the book U2byU2.

    Not that they or their friends weren't affected by it, though, as Bono (especially) is always eager to look at the political angle of any conflict hence his writings and philanthropy.

    The only 'hard times' the Gallagher brothers encountered was whether their dealer was late or whether their benefits got delayed.

    Hey, but listen, Noel got work and the brothers made a great band and great music together, but they have never left that estate - if you see what I mean.

    They loved Lennon and were fond of the track Working Class Hero, but Lennon was middle class not working class whatsoever. Yeh, maybe they didn't understand the true nature of those lyrics but Noel built his ego around that song.

    And as for Lennon - don't get me started! I feckin LOVE the Beatles (more-so their later work) but Lennon was a feckin waster. He was known as a narky little shite, he cheated on and beat up both his missus - the fella was very immature. And let's not forget that it wasn't his missus that split up the band - it was feckin him! A feckin creative genius yes, but another feckin stoner to be honest.

    Anyway, I don't want to seem like I am beating on 2 of my favourite bands here, but it is what it is.

    I think the (ex) boxer Mike Tyson was/is a feckin idiot but one thing he did say was very interesting, he said something like (I'm paraphrasing now) 'I don't put anyone on a pedestal because then there's always someone looking down on me' - dang right there Michael!

    wish I could party with these guys!

    “Let’s get to the hangovers on the tour with U2, brutal,” said Gallagher. “A lot of people know it, but those guys, particularly Bono. We do the gig in Dublin and we go the after show. I’m staying at his house and we leave at half five in the morning.
    The next thing I remember is my phone going and I’m in this place I don’t know. It’s him on the phone, and he says ‘Oh you’re alive, where are you?’ and I was like ‘Well I’m supposed to be in your house, but I don’t recognise, where am I?’ I was in a guest house at the bottom of his garden right.”
    Gallagher continued: “So he says ‘Oh you’re alive anyway, come on, everybody’s here waiting for you’ and I was kind of going ‘What for?’ He said ‘For the lunch I’m throwing in your honour, there’s 75 guests have arrived’. I said ‘I’ve only just got out of bed’. He said ‘Look the President of Ireland’s just arrived and you’re sitting next to him, so hurry up’. So I had to get showered, get up there ‘whey, ey’ and all that. The lunch started at three. Do you know what time it finished? Ten past four in the morning.”

    Describing the experience as ‘unbelievable’, Gallagher then found himself attempting to escape the company of U2 and further intoxication.
    “So the next day I wake up again in this guest house, and we’re flying to Paris for a gig the next night, and I was to my tour manager going ‘Neil, you’ve got to get me out of this place. I can’t do it anymore’. He’s going ‘right look, get your bags, I’ll pick you up at quarter to twelve’. I’m like ‘great’. As I’m kind of walking… I’ve got to say I was gonna do a runner, I mean I was in a mess.”
    However, in his attempt to flee, Gallagher was caught in the act with the U2 frontman himself, “in his dressing gown, with two beers under this arm, eating scrambled eggs, listening to opera”.
    “He was going ‘Where you going?’ I was like ‘Well I was gonna go to Paris for this gig’,” Gallagher continued. ” He said ‘No stay here, come on a private jet’. So we get on the jet, more boozing. This is the part of the story that kills me. More boozing, we land in Paris. He says ‘Look, when the jet lands I’ve got to go off and do this thing, so I’ll see you at the hotel’. I’m like ‘Great’, thinking once he’s out of sight I’m going straight to rehab, this is too much for me.
    “So he goes off, I get to the hotel, it takes me 20 minutes to find the remote control for the telly, another 10 minutes to order a club sandwich, with some guy who’s clearly neither French nor English on the other end of the phone. And as I was kind of sitting down I put on the telly and I’m flicking through, and there’s Bono doing a live press conference with the Prime Minister of France about Africa. And I know what we’ve been up to the previous three days and I’m going ‘He’s not real man’.”
    Gallagher added: “And the next night we do the gig in Paris. I’m sweating pure lager, and he gets up and sings like a 24 year old. And I’m like ‘I’ve had enough’.
