    I'm almost a mirror image audidriver - I went to Vancouver to see the tour debut in 2017 and even though I expect it to be a similar experience, with less 'novelty' factor, I just want to see U2 live in my home town again. I'm even going to Auckland simply for that 'first night of the [2019] tour' experience.

    One of the enduring memories I have of the first Australian tour back in 1984 is the show intro starting with The Theme From Harry's Game - absolutely haunting when booming over the speakers in an arena. THEN...the show kicked off with Out of Control and concluded with 12,000 people singing along to 40. Absolutely magical and spine tingling.

  4. I think for me its the chance to actually see the show!! I missed out in 2017 despite flirting with the idea of heading the the US/UK. Thought i'd missed the show for good so obviously I was thrilled when they announced NZ dates.

    Do you think that first night experience is better than last night experience?
    I planned to see them in NZ first and finish with Singspore, but changed my plans for seeing the last night in Seoul which means I planned to start in Melbourne. It turned out that now Mumbai is the last night now... that’s why I‘ve changed my plans again by skipping Seoul for Mumbai.
    I wonder which experience is the better one?
    I‘ve seen the last night last year in Berlin, and the feeling was different for me compared to any other show I‘ve seen on this tour. It starts already before the shoe when they play all those „Goodbye-related“ songs over the PA.
    I am curious how the first night experience would be..
  7. I would take last night over first night for performance and occasion.

    The only thing worth seeing on the first night with u2 is the potential for a song they play on the first two dates and ditch after.

    Unless you want to hear the tour develop.. Then going and listening to the rehearsals prior to first night would be the pick!

    Yeah first night over last night at all times here. You will likely hear songs that you'll never hear again, as on many opening nights. But performance wise the last night should always be better, more slick.

    Chrissie, it takes a while for them to catch full flight on tour. That's why they usually film about 75% way though the tour.
  10. Agree with what others have said, there are pros and cons to a first night. The highs for me were many including, it being the first night, I was in a different city and country, we were the first to hear JT in full, the first to hear Red Hill debut and the first to encounter the Little Thing. Lots to like. But there were a few lows too. Overall, the band seemed nervous and Bono interacted less than I expected. Tracks like ASOH, Ultraviolet and Miss Sarajevo were disappointing; needing more work. Even the transitions between JT songs felt clunky. If I had to choose I'd go end of tour but that's not to say first night isn't worth the effort.
  11. I always thought the 'flash' for Streets in 2017 was too slow. It wasn't very dramatic.
  12. I agree, but people's reaction to the road was pretty amazing. Audible gasps.

    Guy behind me screamed "Look at that screen!!"
