For sure! Some great mentions in your post there, as well. California is underrated, and I'll never forgive U2 for not only barely playing it live, but completely removing those super rainy, washed out synths in the chorus that practically make that song what it is for me
If only they’d played it every night on I&E and included the synths it might just have been one of the live highlights over the last few tours. I’ll never forget how I felt though hearing the song for the first few times and what I loved is every time I played the song or SOI in general I expected it to sound worse, the excitement of a new album to wear off. More than 5 years later I’m glad to say it never did, it only got better.

    100%!
  3. EBW and Little Things as top two for me, as well.

Lights Of Home (strings version), Cedarwood Road, and Landlady rounding out my personal top five.
  4. Ughh @deanallison and @RattleandHum1988 reminding me how U2 did my sweet baby California dirty by barely playing it and scraping out those gorgeous atmospheric synths and taking off that moody intro

God, that has gotta be U2’s best “modern” pop rocker. Not playing it live and not making it a single were both insane choices — it blends effortless U2 anthem with simple yet atmospheric synthpop... gosh that bit on the bridge where Edge’s guitar gets all fuzzy and cuts in and out for a sec... aaaah
  5. If I was to pick a top 5 from SOI & SOE:
    1) Every Breaking Wave
    2) Landlady
    3) Song For Someone (I'm probably in the minority here but this song really hit me when the album come out).
    4) The Blackout
    5) Love Is Bigger

Exactly! It was U2 sounding modern but taking the best bits and not sacrificing anything.

Love that intro as well..there’s something really vibey and awesome about it.
  7. Sorry, but I'm in the opposite camp when it comes to California; but each to their own. We can coexist ?
  8. Every Breaking Wave or Love Is Bigger.
  9. I'm with you in this camp
  10. Guitar on No Line On The Horizon is better than both SOE+SOI.
(Except for Little Things, Iris, Every Breaking Wave)

    Change my mind
  11. In my opinion, Edge is brilliant in NLOTH. The riff in Stand up Comedy, the genius little solo in Moment of Surrender, Magnificent & his soothing slide solo & everything in Unknown Caller; especially the solo
I'm a big fan of NLOTH and one of the reasons is Edge is brilliant all the way through.
And let me say NLOTH includes a lot of great Adam basslines.
