    Definitely agree on beautiful day and vertigo being the only two big hitters of the 2000’s . Wouldn’t say there’s been any from the 2010’s .

    Shocking to think their last huge global hit that will always stand in their best of catalogue was 15 years ago

    For an 80s band they've done really well post 2000 I can't think of another act from the 80s,70s that have had hit singles or albums post 00s apart from AC/DC most of them have giving up recording new music and just live off their past glories ,the whole world knows SOI whether they wanted to or not you could say it's the most listened to album in history .
  4. I suggest Madonna is an act from the 80s that would be equivalent to U2 when it comes to performance post-2000. She may not be as big as she once was but she's still putting out new material, not living extensively off past material and still popular when she tours.

    Another would be Springsteen. My local radio seems to think the Boss hasn't put out anything worth playing this century yet he's still recording and touring.

Going back to the show in the boxset it would be quite good to get one that had both please and wild honey or both ground beneath her feet and wild honey to offer us something different in the acoustic section to what they’ve already released from the tour. There isn’t too many shows right enough with either of they combo’s.

    I looked this up for holland and U2 had a total of 4 number 1 hits here. All were after 2001: Beautiful Day, Elevation, Window In The Skies (?) and The Saints Are Coming (??)

    'One' made it to #11 to compare..

    20 years has past now so I think you have to judge the songs not by how they were received at the time but how theve aged and thought of now .

    In the U.K. from 2000 onwards u2 would be guaranteed a top 5 single regardless what it was up until get on your boots anyway .

    Sometimes you can’t make it on your own got to number one but I wouldn’t call that a big hit for them now . All because of you got top 5 but most people outside the u2 fan base wouldn’t know the song

Beautiful Day is imho the bands biggest radio friendly song.With the advent of reality shows at the turn of the century,the music buying public of a certain demographic got their kicks from those shows.Even Atomic Kitten stopped them getting to number 1 in the UK with Stuck in a Moment...and didn’t the US ‘claim’ the songs from ATYCLB as a sort of healing during the 9/11 period?


  10. it's incredible the subjectivity of music tastes. IMO, Stuck, expecially the live version, is the best piece of the album, a great soul anthem, Slane version rules. BD and Elevation get me sick after 20 years, i adore Walk ok single edit (Halleluyah ending), in a little while is underrated, kite is prematurely forgotten, the rest of the album is poor.
    Also rationally stuck is a great song, good music parts, good composition, great arrangment.
    After 20 years i would say that AYCLB is a record they needed to produce just to feel still at the top of music business. U2, as artists, died with Pop/MDH Soundtrack, tried to reborn with No Line, catatonic now... ahimsa and bang a bong they sadden me, they are objectively s***... I+E.. some good songs but we have to accept that time
    doesn't look anyone in the face. it's uncomparable Bono singing Bad/Please 20 years ago and now... the only recent song that have a deep pathos is EBW live

  11. You forgot little things that give you away rest is more or less obvious... RS didn’t have a proper hit since Anybody Seen my baby ... 22years ... yet they still sell stadiums at ridiculous prices ... it’s just the way it is At some point every major band losses the top-spots on hit lists ... lets just hope we will not get Boston audio as a live show in the box that would be so U2ish!

    I feel like ahimsa is pretty, but it definitely doesn't represent me, I prefer something like the fly. Song's of innocence could have been a great album IMO
