  1. Someone needs to ask about this... why would it be on the ext album? Is it a different version?
  2. I wouldn't say it was a mediocre show from the band's energy/performance side of things. They were into it and Edge was animated and I thought Bono was as intense as ever.

I will say though that for a Chicago U2 crowd, it was a mediocre atmosphere. When did everyone get so old? And lame?

Maybe they (the crowd) were just pacing themselves as they came alive for the last third of the show.

  3. Interesting...
Not what I would think of when I hear Experience, but oh well
  4. in line for night#2 [upgraded numbers, hoping for "40" these girls are...]:

  5. I'm studying reading back this thread and this comment cracked me up

Think I'll agree with you. It was a good show! (But not exceptional - but who would want that for a 1st night?)

BTW... I think I have bootleg ready...
(to quench the first thirst, so to say... )
  7. Alright guys, here we go: my night 1 thoughts.

First, lets get this out of the way - you guys are all nuts...I read through the thread this morning and was laughing quite hard to myself on the train. Congrats

I said it last night and I'll say it again...this show is NOTHING until you're seeing it live. Even the things you know are coming will blow you away. There is no two ways about it...this band has still got it. I was wrong on so many criticisms I had of the show...there is a LOT of energy coming from those E-stage performances. "Elevation" was supreme last night (even though ya'll are tired of it - I knew we were getting it as soon as that red SG appeared). "Ordinary Love" was also quite good, even though I'm not a HUGE fan of the song...I almost viewed it more like a statistic, since it hasn't been played very often

They fucked quite a bit up. Bono's voice seemed to hold together - couldn't tell there was anything wrong with it at all except for that last note of EBW...oh well, he tried. Hopefully there's a stronger connection between that and BTBS by the end of the residency. But, specifically...

-Larry drummed Out of Control after Electric Co
-Vertigo seemed like it was jusssst about to fall off the rails toward the end of the song, and due to Larry's OOC tempo at the beginning, got off to a slower start than normal.
-Until The End of the World's intro was cut short, unless that's just the way they've been doing it now and I haven't been paying close enough attention.
-Bono messed something up at the end of Beautiful Day...not sure what (my guess is that he ended the song too early, or caught the band off guard), but when the song ended, he turned back toward the main stage and Larry was giving him a WTF face but laughing VERY hard, and Edge looked like he was bellowing too...and Bono mouthed "sorry!" across the arena.

Now, all of this is fine and good - seeing the band perform these songs live, and humanly...this stuff is bound to happen. But it does have me excited for the upcoming nights where I hope they get it all right.

I was closer to the band than I've ever been. I was probably 4 people off the catwalk on Edge's side, close enough to the front stage to see the whites of their eyes but not much closer. Perfect spot. At one point I was almost certain I made eye contact with The Edge.

For only seeing one show so far, "no variation" doesn't have me upset at all. Even though on paper, I thought the setlist could be a little better, it is unbelievable live. And I am a HUGE ripper on the "narrative" aspect of U2's fucking shows, because it just really fucking bothers me sometimes....but I'd be damned if I said the narrative of I Will Follow thru Raised By Wolves, fully and completely, didn't totally captivate me. I got downright emotional during Song For Someone.

And hey, even Iris wasn't so bad live

More to come tonight...keep following that Snapchat story! I'll try to shake it up a little bit, even if the band chooses not to
  8. Also, someone I was with heard that on Saturday, U2 would drive down Michigan Avenue with a sign that had a venue name on it, two hours before a secret show.

I haven't seen ANYTHING else about this, so take it for what its worth. And honestly - I probably won't be wasting my entire day / night trying to get into it. Five times is enough for me.

This, of course, would be either the hoax or the news of the day
