1. Now rarely do I disagree with Hosarama, but I think this idea of soliciting funds is not a good idea. I know it CAN work, but in a general forum post/situation like this? Nope.

My suggestions. If you are worried about coverage, offer spare tickets to KNOWN tapers. I am ALWAYS willing to attempt other shows, (I would have done Vegas beside the two LA shows) but tickets were tough to get. I don't want to be paid, or given anything extra, but if someone reached out and offered a ticket to me, I might have gone.

The whole idea of knowing who is "covering" shows is silly, because I am not shouting out loud in a public forum, than I am planning on taping in Los Angeles or Vegas or whatnot, prior to the actual show. Yes, maybe Mr Hosa knows the shows I am taping but I don't go and broadcast that ahead of time for a number of reasons.

The biggest thing? You want a show taped? Learn how to tape. You can get an acceptable rig for $300 or so. Mics, a recorder and a battery box. When I started in 2001, that same "rig" was $1500. Yes, it's tough. But lets face it. Taper numbers are dwindling. I am an old man. Even Mr Hosa is getting a bit burned out. I only did two shows this tour, and I struggled to drag my gear to both of them. If just a few more people started getting into the hobby, it would be great. And the satisfaction of pulling your own tape, is 100% better than getting some recording in your dropbox account. It will mean SO much more to YOU.

This was tried with even the best of intentions in 2005 and even without the ebay shenanigans, it was a bad idea. Friendships lost, tapers mad at each other, and then actual withholding of recordings because of the crap that was going on.

Learn to tape, or offer a spare ticket to a taper. That works.
  2. You dare disagree with me?!? YOU'RE DEAD TO ME NOW!

But yes, I will ALWAYS agree with "tape it yourself" mantra. I agree that I don't really like soliciting, but I'd be onboard towards reaching out to other non-U2 tapers to tape shows. I think anybody contributing towards covering that taper costs should be very clear on what they're throwing in towards--if the taper fails in recording, then you absorb that impact too. You're not buying a recording, you're effectively hiring a taper. Anyways, just my thoughts and I'm not exactly inclined to go out trying to recruit AUD tapers right now.

  3. I knew we agreed in principle.
  4. For the record ...... I NEVER disagree with Hoserama.

    Just saying ........
  5. Please, his ego is big enough

  6. Always good to be critical... regardless the person @wa4892

And I think that @Chrisedge has a point: let's discuss any concrete plans via pm (and then, say, through e-mail or WhatsApp).
  7. UPDATE:

Thanks to taper @chefpeter a recording of 2018-06-14 Philadelphia PA (2nd night) is now up on the show page / audio tab

I think this 2nd night came out better than the first night, although the sound is somewhat dark. This could easily be helped by turning your treble up, or selecting a "treble boost" eq setting on your iPod. But there are far less near-by screams or other intrusive elements (although it's not completely free of audience chatter) than the Philly 1 recording.

The recording is available both in lossless flacs (16/44.1kHz), and 256kb/s mp3's which come straight from the 48kHz .aiff files.

Enjoy & BIG thanks to @chefpeter
  8. Thanks any Flacs from night 1 yet ?

Agreed. Sometimes the single IEM recordings from 360 tour were better than some matrixs. San Sebastian and Mexico are both of my recordings and some of my best. Both shows were very special.

PS: I might share another single IEM show soon just for fun or maybe another IEM recording from rehearsals. I'm thinking I haven't shared anything from Vertigo tour, maybe that will be it. So many choices......
  10. To do a matrix right, it takes more than mashing feeds or recordings together. Having the knowledge, getting sources in alignment, and properly mixing are all key.

I think of people mashing audience sources together, using a Schoeps source and an internal mic source and thinking it's going to improve the sound some how. NOPE. I have heard a Bono feed from this tour that sounds GREAT on it's own. Nothing else added. Now, in the right hands with a nice audience recording, it could be improved, but I agree, 1+1 doesn't always add up to 2.
