  1. I’m just not hearing what the need was for this album to be taken away and deconstructed because the world is now a different place. We’ve heard four songs and each is just a love song or a pop song.

  3. Going by Bono's Rolling Stone interview he seems to have revised some lyrics to make them more 'au courant' as it were. References to the face of liberty cracking and Lincoln's ghost. These look like 2017 revisions. 'Democracy flat on its back, etc in The Blackout. Also has relevance in a post Trump election political climate?

    They sure do but it also takes away from what the songs were originally meant to be. I just worry about this chopping and changing things to suit current events. I’d rather here the song that was written for whatever its original meaning was.

    I think they can dispense with calling themselves a Rock and Roll band given what we have heard thus far

    You could take the way further though. You could say you aren’t ok with One, The Fly and Ultraviolet and you wish you heard the original Lady With The Spinning Head and wish they kept that.

    Obviously for whatever reason what they had last year they weren’t happy with. I’m sure I would have liked it either way but it is what it is. Brings on the album!

    Exactly. There is nothing new about the song process. The only thing thats changed is the technology thats allowed undone songs to get out there (in most cases)

    And my thoughts are that the whole "changing some of the songs to fit the times" is his way of saying "we weren't happy with the finished product and started again"

    Maybe that’s exactly their point. Love songs in response to what they see in the world. Doesn’t have to be anger.

    Lot of album left to hear still too.

  11. I don't care anymore whether they make another Achtung Baby or Joshua Tree. All I care about now is U2 still making enjoyable music. I gave up on the next masterpiece concept after NLOTH, and then their next album SOI really surprised me.

    From what I've heard that song has high energy and has an enjoyable melody and positive vibe. I really like that. I don't mind them returning to ATYCLB era type songs - that was a great feel good album which has held up pretty well in my opinion. Maybe the album will have a mixture of themes, who knows? From what I grasp so far, it seems U2 is trying to apply some positivity in the world right now as we go through troubled times - I definitely saw that in the Best Thing video.

    Great point. I'm just hoping U2 make a record that I'll have fun listening to and that I can feel a connection with. I don't think SOE will disappoint on that front.
