Also the ending coda is repeated during "Iris", so it works very well. IWF does not belong there - it's the song that leads into the second quarter.

The acoustic section that runs into Pride is fine by me.

American Soul is a very important part of the show, lyrically, visually, and thematically.

A U2 show isn't just a bunch of songs stuck together in an order to get the crowd rockin' and hasn't been like that since 1992.

If so why is u2 playing always / most of the times, BD Elevation, pride, sbs, Cobl, one, follow? Just crowd pleasers.
  2. Having seen the show 2x it's clear they picked songs not as crowd pleasers but because of meaning and how they fit into the narrative they want to tell.

That said, I think there are things they could tweak in the setlist and still get the same message or meaning at that particular moment.

    - The opening of the show is great, first 3 songs absolutely start the story, Blackout is raging live and IWF is in a good spot as it's the beginning of their journey and really gets the crowd going. Gloria following it was also great and RFD after that on night 2 was fantastic and the water theme went right into The Ocean.
    - The SOI sequence is also good (Iris vocals especially), but the version of SBS they've chosen brings the energy down. The crowd hears the opening notes and everyone is ready to jump around and it doesn't quite happen. My vote goes for the original version here. Energy goes way back up for Wolves and UTEOTW.
    - 2nd half starting with e-stage sequence is GREAT, the buildup to Acrobat is amazing (my favorite sequence in the show), but YTBTAM is not quite working after that. It's clear they want a lighter song about love as redemption from the dark themes of Acrobat, but something else would work better here. My vote is for All I Want is You (acoustic maybe). Staring at the Sun was fantastic.
    - Pride thru COBL - great, makes sense. Crowd was pumped.
    - The encore needs a more energetic song as the opener. Wild Horses would be amazing but an electric Best Thing would also work well here. Clearly they want and need to sing One, so that's all fine, but 3 mid-to-slow songs is a sleepy closer. That said, Love is Bigger was really good live. I actually love the 13 closing song in person. Such a thoughtful, beautiful narrative.

whoops, sorry for the long ramble!

I get all of that and you should know what you are getting when you go to a U2 show, at the same time I personally don't love going to a show where I hear almost a whole new album from a band.

The biggest thing to change If I can only pick one is the encore, that is too sleepy.

No apology necessary - your post has me excited for Chicago! Good balanced review.

Because after a song where Bono sings about "I shouldn't be here / I should be dead", the next song is about "It's a beautiful day / don't let it get away". Seems obvious to me.

Elevation / Vertigo / Desire, all lyrically and musically about hits and noise and entertainment which fit in with the theme of MacPhisto distracting you : don't believe what you hear, or what you see.

Staring At The Sun / Pride / GOOOYW / AS - its all about America and what it means, obviously!

One a thematic call to unity after the broken / divided US in the previous songs.

Every song in the core setlist has earnt its place in there.

If you want a Nostalgia Act, others are far more suited for you.
  8. Exactly, I want to hear as much of the new stuff as possible

I think this guy should go and watch def leppard

    exactly my opinion
  11. The Staring At The Sun/ Pride/ GOOYW/ AS section could and probably will change in Europe.

Stay - Streets/ GOOYW/ Summer of Love?? How would that sound?
