    lol, in the long and short, yes - what do you mean by "nice Fatwa" lol? I'm intrigued? And yeah I thought it was originated from Iran or suchlike, but on that note I wasn't certain so I didn't want to get anything factually wrong in case it was misunderstood lol, you know what I'm like with regard to political correctness

    And about the others, as of yet I don't know - I was going to say "Goodbye Michael" was referring to Michael Hutchence but then I remembered I was 4 years ahead of myself, and I don't know whether the "Goodbye Squeegie" bit should be "whales" or "Wales"...

    "nice Fatwa" just because it caused so much issues at the time...it came from Ayotollah Khomeyni, the leader of the Islamic Revolution. Goes against my beliefs...but some Iranians believe it to be right and are still looking for Rushdie!!...yea, I know about your hesitations

    I did think of Hutch too, and I think it's right...weren't they friends at this time? Michael's australian, so the last show in sydney could have a "good bye michael" part...right?

    ..and I had always considered that one to be Wales...but I copied that from U2Wanderer...they have it as whales.

    Ayotollah Khomeyni, that's who I was thinking of. I remebered "-tollah" but could remember little else, and I can imagine such an action did cause a bit of a stir. And although I don't hold any religious beliefs as such, I agree with your position, it's something that I think is, to all intents and purposes, immoral, unjustifiable and illegal, quite honestly. But like I always say, it takes all sorts...

    actually the "Ayotollah" bit is just the title. Like Dr. this and Professor that. The name bit is just Khomeyni.
    The belief based on which he gave the Fatwa is that a Muslim who turns his back on Islam and starts insulting the prophet and the religion is "Mortad" and should be killed. I consider this to be a misunderstanding.

    Pretty fair enough I think. Yeah I didn't mean I thought his name was Ayotollah, but I remember moy faaaaaaaaather telling me about it years ago, but all I could remember was the "tollah" sound. The thing is, was Rushdie ever a Muslim? Was it a case of he lost his faith or was it that he grew up in an Islamic culture without ever embracing Islam, but was left disillusioned or suchlike and felt compelled to publicly broadcast his views?

    I believe i read somewhere that the Wales-part had something to do with princess Diana...I'm not sure though.
    Squeegie had something to do with an affair with Diana...

    Perhaps Squeegie was a nickname for Prince Charles or that doctor she was in love with after they separated (H. Khan, I believe? No idea though...). Considering it was 4 years before her death, I don't think it would refer to Dodi Al-Fayed though...

    I'm not sure if he was a muslim or not...the story apparently refers to stuff in islamic culture, also his name is kinda islamic...as I said...whether he was a muslim or not, I believe the whole thing to be wrong...but whatever...

    Indeed, like I say, I've read most of it, and perhaps it's the fact that I'm not well versed in Islamic culture but nothing sprung out at me as being offensive material or ridiculing beliefs. That said, it's highly likely that it makes many references to events or knowledge that would have passed me by - like I say, I am not of the Muslim faith nor have much knowledge (unfortunately) of it other than what I have picked up through my years in British education and reading random books on world religions etc. I say unfortunately because I think it's important that we all know enough about each other (on a global perspective) to understand and tolerate one another - ignorance only breeds fear, and fear leads to suffering
