You can get the iPhone because it can still be jailbroken, then just hold out for 3.0. If you want Winterboard, the Gameboy app etc for 3.0 you'll be waiting a while.

They are. The apps are always class and are always worthwhile. My iPod hasn't crashed to Safe Mode yet. I think it was a side-effect of updating MobileSubstrate. Considering how hard it is to go back to an earlier MS version, I thought just to wait.

On an unrelated note, here is my current iPod screen:

Nice background, but there is so much there that could be changed. Look for Glasklart in Cydia...and try to hide the useless piece of shit that is / was Installer. Good back in the 1.1.x days, but in these 2.x and 3.x times, it's no match for Icy, SSH .deb installers or Cydia.
  2. Just wondering if anyone's seen the new high-def feature on YouTube. 720p videos...better than DVD quality for download by all.

So if you want the Fordham University, Jonathon Ross, Somerville Theatre, Culture Club, Letterman stuff in true 720p HD, get over there! A five-minute file is about 77MB, but still, for 1280x1024 resolution that's more than good enough for DVD, that's bloody brilliant.

It has to have HD on the display video in order to obviously be downloadable at that resolution. I think HQ works too...

Ok, so before I take the plunge, when I buy the iPhone, how do I unlock it if they say they have to put in a SIM card from AT&T? Every guide I see has the iPhone jailbroken...so my question is:

Can the iPhone be jailbroken while the screen looks like this:

i want to say that the pineapple hack thing I did (what was the name again?) should work since you have to have the computer recognize it as a new device and have iTunes off. So maybe with the iPhone plugged in and iTunes off, the jailbreaking should work? My next issue is, if after the jailbreak, will I be able to use the iPhone as an iPod Touch or will I be stuck at the same screen? If I can use it as an iPod Touch and use Cydia, I'm golden.

A lot of questions nonetheless, but I gotta know if it works.
  4. I think you can. How you would is a whole other question.

I think you can get the phone now without going on a contract and just go pre-paid instead. So that would mean you still buy the SIM card from AT&T or whoever as pre-paid (not putting any credit on it), jailbreak as usual and then use yellowsnow in Cydia and use your normal 3G SIM. You probably want to use T-Mobile?

You'll have to stop by modmyi.com (ipodtouchfans are a lot stricter on that stuff) and ask them how.

Ay, you want a theme when it's done with darker buttons and less bright colours?

I talked to my friend and he said you can buy the iPhone no strings attached.

That works I guess. So I would get a prepaid plan from AT&T, use that SIM card, then jailbreak. 3G SIM? I think that's what my SIM card is, as it is comptonle with the TMobile Dash which I think is 3G or something.

    Thanks for the tip mate!

That would be cool, isn't that an option on Springboard/Winterboard though?
  6. Having the Nokia 5800 in mind
  7. I don't think it is. This is the buttons changed to more darker colours and transparent icons.

So there you go with the prepaid SIM.

So what exactly is the darker colors thing now?

Saving for one now...however 'tis 2nd priority
