1. QuickOffice and GEdit is about the closest to office apps. GEdit is on Cydia and QuickOffice is in the App Store, but it's hellishly expensive for what it is. Some apps on Mac have already been converted from .app to .ipa, but I've not seen how exactly it's done. Just using Final Cut Pro for example, it'd be clunky but could you imagine how amazing it would be?

Flash Player is what is needed to stream those other videos. For whatever reason Apple isn't allowing it, and we hear constant statements from insiders about it coming in the next firmware, next year, next week, next millennium, next whenever...but me and you both know it clearly isn't there. How YouTube videos run on it I'm not exactly sure - there must be some sort of special plugin and no reason that can't be extended to play other formats. Shockwave is used for a lot of those online games, but if it's not on Mac, the general rule is that it won't be on the iPhone platform.

And your idea there is amazing. I wouldn't even know where to start though, otherwise I'd have a go.
  2. A question for the Apple users here and gamers too.

I'm looking for a decent laptop mainly for multimedia. Naturally I have a choice of any non-HP / Dell laptop or Apple one - Pro or just MacBook. The MB has a 13inch screen and has 160GB hard drive, 2GB RAM, 9400M GeForce graphics, CD / DVD burner and a 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo CPU, for $1799, and has to be black, because I have a habit of eating near the computer and drinking too - as we all do. And the white is too white for me.

The non-HP / Dell one has a 15.4in screen (or 17in for a little more) with 160GB hard drive, CD / DVD burner, 4GB RAM - presumably it's 64bit - and a 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo and integrated graphics, but is $500 cheaper and runs either XP Pro, Vista or Win7 or Ubuntu if I feel like wiping the lot. It needs to run the latest multimedia apps for video, photo and audio editing and maybe a game from time to time.

Are Macs easy enough to adapt to, with respect to someone who has decent knowledge of how Unix and Linux work and the iPhone file system and hacking? If they're easy enough to work, then I will get one, but is a refurb alright for a first Apple computer? They're a few hundred dollars cheaper but I don't wanna get a few hundred headaches with it.

Decisions, decisions...I also think you get a whole bunch of apps thrown in, like full-functioning, so that's another big plus. Can they also hook up to a Windows network so I can access my stuff on my other Vista computer without loads of messing around and talk getting nowhere. I do want to try something new, but not the same old frustration you'd usually have with them.

Only problem - you can't run DVD Shrink for copying my movies and backing up or Foobar. Are there comparable apps for creating your own music player and editing it heavily, and burning copy-protected discs (like U2 official DVDs?)
  3. Hi friends!

Motorola started to sell here in Brazil a cell phone they're calling "The U2's cell phone". It started almost 3 mopnths ago and I just bought mine. The model is the EM35 model. It has some pictures of the band, the videoclip of GOYB and all the songs of the new album. I love it and I want to know if they did the same is the rest of the world.

Here's the link with pics of the cell phone

  4. Might only be for Brazil. I haven't seen one in Australia yet. Nice design too with all the red.

  5. The cell phone has just this color, and it's because the Red campain.
  6. Anyone tried Windows 7 yet? I'm in the middle of installing it - it looks a lot better and more reliable than Vista.

I'll post some screenshots later...if it works.
  7. Ref you Mac question Drew -

How much is the newest 13-inch Macbook Pro in Australia (this one-)

    http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro?mco=MTE4NDY

I have the last version of it (when they still called it Macbook) and it's ace.

I converted to Apple with my only prior knowledge being iTunes and had no issue. Seeing as you know way more about computers than me it will be a breeze.

    I'd do it. For sure.

DVD - I use Handbrake and haven't had any DVD it can't do. Quite slow though.

Nothing like that in the UK Aidan. Nice

We did have a RED phone a few years back, but no extras like you got and not as nice a phone.
  9. At first it was gonna be this MacBook Air:

$1100 for a 13inch MacBook which looks like that one you put up. But I was stupid and bought an Acer instead for a bit less.

What you reckon about a Mac Mini? It's got a Chess game...
  10. Is the new iPhone 3.0 Software Update for iPod Touch worth buying?

  11. Depends if you got an iPod with controls on the side or not. For the first one it wasn't.
  12. You still get half-arse bluetooth (iBluetooth works better), sound recording I think, Safari additions, copy paste, search, battery percentage, better (but still crap) locking screen info and that was all I remember. There are battery issues - I got nine hours instead of the three days I used to.

If you wanna get it by all means do.
