Some apps on Mac have already been converted from .app to .ipa, but I've not seen how exactly it's done. Just using Final Cut Pro for example, it'd be clunky but could you imagine how amazing it would be?
Flash Player is what is needed to stream those other videos. For whatever reason Apple isn't allowing it, and we hear constant statements from insiders about it coming in the next firmware, next year, next week, next millennium, next whenever...but me and you both know it clearly isn't there. How YouTube videos run on it I'm not exactly sure - there must be some sort of special plugin and no reason that can't be extended to play other formats. Shockwave is used for a lot of those online games, but if it's not on Mac, the general rule is that it won't be on the iPhone platform.
And your idea there is amazing. I wouldn't even know where to start though, otherwise I'd have a go.
