  1. A lot of students can get a MSDNAA account from their university. Check https://www.ma3d.com/ and try to create an account using your email account of the university.

    After a work day or two you will have access to the sweet stuff for free

    I'd advice creating a backup of your documents and do a clean install. Because upgrading isnt as good as a clean install. Also an upgrade is only possible from the same Vista edition. Upgrading from XP is not possible (It will remove all data then).

    Would 7 run on a system with:

    AMD x2 Dual Core (2.16GHz)
    4GB RAM (3.12GB in 32bit)
    320GB 7200rpm hard drive
    ATI 4650 512MB graphics

    Or:

    3.06GHz Intel Celeron D45
    1GB RAM (has 2GB installed but reads only 1GB!)
    80GB 7200rpm Seagate HDD
    NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT 512MB


    Or would I be wasting my money? The first runs Vista Home Premium OEM as an Acer laptop and the second is a custom-built running Vista Home Premium upgrade.

    Also, I'd like to get another MP3 player but I'm so used to the touch-screen now that I happen to touch all the screens of players and phones and think they are touchable! Are there any relatively cheap (and of course decent sound) players which are touch-screen or at least don't include a wheel or dial as the main control?
  5. The first should run without problems. The second one will install i think, but I dont think that is worth the money.

    I would try installing on the first before wasting any money

    So it's an OEM laptop with the pre-installed Vista on it (never bought a proper computer system before except this one) and that should be fine? It won't matter about recovery partitions or should I check with Acer before doing it?

    I dont know about that, if you keep the recovery partition you should be good though.

    I recently opened a PayPal account. Is it safe to order something from the US - this on PayPal as it's the cheapest I've ever seen it anywhere? If it gets lost in transit or delivery, will PayPal reimburse me for the cost sans delivery?

    Looking at their record they've done 6000+ items at 99.3% positivity so they should be safe but just wondering about that above.

    Also, they don't get my bank details do they, like so some shop in the US has them on their record - only PayPal knows my details of bank and that stuff? Just my PayPal name and address to send it to is all they'll get?

  11. anybody really good with routers?

    I'm sure I can see the problem but not sure whether a change is needed with the router or with the phone itself. My router is setup to run as a DHCP server as is normal and has an IP range of 192.168.1.xx to 192.168.1.yy but the phone keeps obtaining an IP of 84.164.244.xxx for some reason. That has to be the problem. I have added the phones MAC address to the routers device list etc but it keeps hooking up to that same random IP address. I'm stuck.

    Tried disabling encryption, wpa/wep etc etc but still it goes for the random IP address

    Yes, I do it all the time, never had any problems even when buying from China.
    All my guitar equipment is coming from the US and its worth about $1500 AUD all up.

    If you get insured shipping (which is usually offered) you should have no problems at all when your dealing with an eBay Power Seller.

    They don't get anything other than your mailing address (and the money of course).
