  2. 'the anger is unbelievable' omfg hahaha. One Step Closer, A Man And A Woman, Original. . . .
  3. Sceptics!
  4. In the end I don't feel a delay is good.
It doesn't seem necessary when they already have 50 or 60 (!) songs!
If that number is really true (I've learned to take the way Bono hypes new albums with a BIG pince of salt), then they are in fact many times more productive then they've ever ever been. In my perception none of the albums really have more then say 5 or 6, or maybe 10 'leftovers' that don't make it to the final twelve.
Delay usually means 'overproduced' which means: smooth instead of raw, safe instead of daring, radiofriendly instead of transitional and exciting........ please don't "soften the edges" now, please don't let creativity and intuitivity smother in to much rationality

(sorry if i sound to pessimistic, let's hope they are really on a big creative wave right now and make a 2cd with 22 new songs........... )

That's not entirely true, HTDAAB also had thirty+ songs. You can however put your question marks with what Bono means by 'songs'. It means they have fifty sets of lyrics and a melodies. Some would call that songs, others just pieces of music. It surely doesn't mean that they are fifty full songs which can be put on an album.

That's only one way to read a "Delay". It's also possible, that it's exactly the opposite - that they played it to some people who find it too polished.
Maybe they fiddled out the mother of all songs all of a sudden and feel that it needs be on the record.

It's all speculation so far - but to me, it seems pretty save to assume that, for whatever reason, they aren't 100% happy with the result of the recordings. Up to you to see this as a bad or good sign.
  7. ??? I don't go online for a day, and there are 10 more pages on this thread.

well, too bad the news we got is bad news, with regards to the delay. I'm putting my money on March 2009 (feel sorry for the suckers on the 'time for a bet' thread).

And agree that NLOTH could be a 3rd best album, surpassing JT/AB is ludicrous, it was a different age when they were released. Still think its going to be an evolution of Bomb. (which isn't a bad thing)

The 50-60 song comment from Bono is interesting, does this mean U2 have this huge back catalogue of unreleased material, perhaps to put on compilation CDs in 20 years time? cue the 'The More Complete U2'
Or does he mean 40 '4th of julys' and 20 proper songs?

If they do have that much material, they should do a 'Zooropa' style release soon after the new album (two albums were rumoured), 4 1/2 years is too long to wait for albums, especially when they're not getting any younger.
  8. I think it was either The Saints Are Coming or Window In The Skies they bought out on January 1. Maybe that's what they'll do, and mean by "early 2009". That new music service by RED and possibly iTunes may well be the first to have it - in November, then physical purchase 01/01/09 - it sounds alright.

U2 albums take forever to write and produce...ATYCLB was started six months after the release of Pop, so the time from HTDAAB - GTFO could well be similar. Overproduced to me means "terrible sound" like it's been recorded too loud and "terrible lyrics", such as "an intellectual tortoise". Under produced is something missing those qualities, much like a lot of music nowadays and remastered efforts, which I hope this new record is.

Wouldn't a compilation full of unreleased stuff be something to behold. I don't expect it, though - look how long it took for them to release one Boy, four Joshua Tree and two War demos - which sucked anyway. When artists start getting towards the half-century mark, they start putting out demos, outtakes and whatever else, because they have to get them out there somehow.
  9. starting university this to me may be a bit of a blessing. At least i can sort out the money side of things without worrying about buy tour tickets and stuff. Still, I was getting exited.

One can have an album of 12 great tracks, but not all great tracks are singles .....

It has been done at least one time that I know of - and with great success. A christian group called 'whiteheart' did it with the 1992 album 'tales of wonder' - all but 2 of the songs made the top ten on christian radio and the album sold very well...unfortunately, I dont think the album has 'stood the test of time'.......but it is possible....

I am disappointented but not surprised with the delay of the new album....at least now whenit comes out I will have the money to get it.....

Its christian music on christian radio, it doesn't count. And there is no wikipedia entry for it, so it can't be all that famous...

  12. Really? thirty+?
can someone direct me to a list of those please?
