1. Well, on the 13th of November i'll actually be seeing them in concert so i guess i'll be missing it
  2. I already saw the Led Zeppelin film... I don't have the money to see all these films! (Skyfall, Argo, CP LOL) But I MIGHT try to make it, but I don't know, I don't even like those three songs on the previous page way too "overblown" for me, I like my DVD's and concerts to be raw and stripped back and that just looks too flashy, not enough substance. But I've loved them since Parachutes so I'm torn... I want to see it but I'd have to bust a mission after class. Maybe...

I think the reason behind the one-night-only release is at its core a fiscal one. Showing things in theaters is actually quite expensive and only films intending a wide audience will make a profit. My guess is that Coldplay Live 2012, like most concert films, will cater to a niche audience. I wouldn't be surprised if them showing it for just one day will actually result in a net loss for the band. But they do it for the fans and that's what counts.

As for opinions regarding the film, don't look at it as if it were a concert DVD. If you approach Coldplay Live 2012 as if it's a traditional concert film, you will be sorely disappointed and will essentially miss out on the whole purpose of it. Note that I obviously haven't seen it and therefore what I say about its purpose is just speculation, but here's what I've got.

Just from the trailer, we already know that there's something different about the film. They tell us that they felt the tour was like the breaking of the shackles of being worried about how they presented themselves as a band. From that, I feel they want this film to be all about expression. That is, expression of themselves as a band, of the audience in response to the songs, and obviously the songs themselves. Rather than focus on the ebb and flow of one night, I think they've hand selected songs that best express where the band is at and have chosen the "best" performances of those songs to display. By "best" I mean the performances that best display the mood of the song.

I personally think the additional effects (while not in line with a traditional concert film) complement the songs very well when it comes to them portraying a particular feel. Plus, I don't think every song will be as dressed up as Charlie Brown and DLIBYH. The Scientist was as stripped down as could possibly be, which is appropriate for that song.

TLDR: This is not a traditional concert film. Charlie Brown is the greatest song Coldplay has ever created.
  4. Live 2012 Paradise...

so I guess the end of Charlie Brown is in there after all. Followed by the Blue MX wall (gives me chills everytime I see the words ON EVERY SURFACE appear on it)

And the picture shown at 5:29 on Chris' piano... WTF?!?
  5. Yup I'm in love with this DVD. Now I feel bad for showing such skepticism in the outset...
  6. Still don't like it
  7. I'll "try before I buy"

...and probably not want to buy.
  8. I'll probably just watch it at the cinema. If I like it, I'll get it when it's cheap.
  9. I think I'm gonna go! eff it this might be my only chance to see them in theatres. I'm going with a friend that loves them more than U2 though I can already hear her saying how this is better than 360 LOL

I'd only go through that immense hassle if the girl was hot enough

I can easily see how this will be better than the Rose Bowl DVD.

But if they picked any other show, especially after The Fly became a setlist staple, I'd be hard pressed to find any DVD that can beat it.

If U2 made a blu-ray using the Montreal shows it would be phenom.
