1. Was anyone else pissed off they ditched these on Vertigo? Its one of those moments everyone looks forward too because they know what going to happen next and unless your insane, you love it. Kinda like when the bell starts ringing at AC/DC concerts or Billie brings out his old copy Strat at GreendaY shows. You all know whats going to happen, and your all looking forward to it. I sincerly hope they bring back this practice.

Yes. They "ditched" them for the flags as "...Streets..." lyrics were intially inspired by Bono's firt trip to Africa. It also fit in with Bono's lobbying crowds to join the One Campaign.

That said, I miss the red screens and hope they return for the next tour.
  3. you are very right! I remarked this too. The red screen(s) during Zoo TV, Popmart were incredible... and then that white/yellow light. And everyone cheers.
  4. OMG - how dare they change things on you, after 20 years! I'm all for tradition but not everyone who goes to a show has seen a show before or even a concert video so it's not necessarily an indicatoreveryone. Although I can see how it's sort of a nudge to those in the know. Also, isnt' that first extended note (pardon me not knowing which note it is) a big clue too? It always surprises me when I'm at a concert and it takes until the band really gets into a song for the audience to recognize it, especially with a big hit (like Streets). Don't you think it'd be a little weird if they ended every single show with 40?

What would be funny... remember how on ZOO TV there is the footage in the background of the band at Zabriske Point... and at a certain point Bono waves at the film of his 26/27 year old self waving and he says "Hey you, I remember you..."

On the next tour they should show the ZOO footage of him waving at himself and making some funny Bono like comment about his two younger selves.

I had a dream about that once. And it would be sort of cool and funny.
  6. I wonder why they chose red I think that the red screens were "most brilliant" on POPMart, because it had the largest screen. I like what the screens did on Vertigo. All the flags of different countries. I think that was more powerful than a red screen.

Arguably the best moment on the ZooTV DVD....
  8. I agree. There was no red background at all when streets was first played so please get things in perspective.

The clip that was posted was from one of the last two shows Joshua Tree shows. So yeah, they used the red background, at least, by then but...

With all due respect, there was no red background at the April 13 and April 14, 1987 shows in San Diego. So I don't think that "...Streets..." ALWAYS had a red background from it's very first time being played.
