Yeah, he did overkill the speeches. I mean, I didn't mind the one before Streets, because it was usually fairly energetic and would kick into the African chant thingy; the Miracle Drug one wasn't too painful, but the ones during SBS and pre-One did get laborious. I mean, he'd do the same for SBS during Elevation, but compare the Torino rendition with any Vertigo show, and fuck me there's a difference. In hindsight, the Torino version of SBS was probably the highlight of an otherwise average show - it's one of my favourite versions for that speech.

he can have his moments of chatting and what not, that is his passion afterall.Even without the speeches though I still couldn't sit through an Elevation or Vertigo bootleg.I've managed with 2004-10-24 New York for a while but my top ten bootlegs list needs a review.I just can't pinpoint what it is. All Popmart gigs have idenditcal setlists as do most Zoo TV gigs but I could listen to 5 back to back. Why is that?

I admit, my main love of Vertigo is the variations of setlist material, but for sheer spectacle and vibe it doesn't come close to ZooTV, Lovetown or PopMart, which I think could be the thing. With those tours, U2 were presenting themselves in a different light each time, whereas during Vertigo, it was more a reincarnation of Elevation, rather than something new and exciting - it was another decent album by their standards with a monster tour that missed something original.

some of that but I don't think i'll ever pin point it. Elevation and mainly Vertigo are the only eras as such that I have been around to witness as a true fan as they have developed but i've never got attatched. I could list 2 Vertigo gigs that I could listen to start to finish. I fond that odd considering the only thing really commonly disliked about the tour is Bono's ranting (and that doesn't bother me all that much) so something else is at work. Theres barely any playfulness with the band. Whats wrong with an Edge solo that isn't in the script, or Larry taking to the mic again, little lyrical improvs by Bono or anything to spice it up? Everything nowadays (Vertigo) just felt so rehearsed and scripted and formulated and that just killed and buried it for me. Odd again considering ZooTV was heavily scripted but there was a playfulness about the band, a chemistry which seems to have been shelved. I think it will return..

Here's hoping, definitely. There was the odd bit of ad lib to the odd Vertigo show now and then (e.g. Hawaii and the spontaneous performance of WGRYWH), but there wasn't that sense of "right, here we are, we're gonna put on the beastliest fucking show ever seen every night we play and you ARE gonna love it, trust me ". It's more "well, we're here, you're there, you've paid your money - and thanks a lot for that - , we'll put on a show" or at least something along those lines.
  6. I understand Gerard. I admit it's true...However, the last gigs saved Vertigo for me. Saitama and the Aussie gigs were great. But like Gerard said..they missed something. Like with Angel of Harlem at Saitama 12-04. Bono starts 'Suspicious Minds' at the end but stops after the first sentence...why not continue? It was a great performance and that snippet would have been great, just like the one from Point Depot. But they didn't...a shame..
  7. I can't find the last link to complete the download...anybody can help me please? I downloaded the other 6 files, but now the links in the first page are disappeared...
