1. Thanks, I did this on my iPod LOL....I'm a fan of u2, fob, and panic....so I wasn't surprised mr flowers would say something of sick stupidity. especially with a new album of his bands on the horizon, and a portion of the fanbase being u2 fans

You just lost a few sales there too brandon...
  2. i think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. More power to any band trying to be at the top, but we know U2 has that spot secured

    Yep, that was me

  4. Then I must say that I completely agree. And are we all forgetting about the "Re-applying for Best Band in the World" comment? Wasn't that a bit egotistical to say at the time?

It was...having a big mouth is okay as long as the deeds are there too. Time for the Killers to proof they're right. Same goes for U2 though with their new album.
  6. Bono is king of the pre-album hyperbole. We were berating him for it a few weeks ago.

Brandon's a measly amateur trying it out. They're pretty successful now and trying to take it up a notch. Naturally they will aim for U2 - who else could they go at? This is what I was getting at earlier - only Coldplay, Killers, Snow Patrol (?) have any chance of pushing U2 for the Biggest Band spot. Radiohead are too left field (intentionally so) for mainstream crossover and there is no-one else.

For now it's U2's to hold, and likely will be until they retire from active songwriting. The fanbase is too large and back catalogue too vast. If they keep releasing material with 2-3 crackers on then they will keep the 'Biggest' title. Not necessarily the 'Best' title - you need a 5-star record with relevant, boundary-pushing material for that.

Sateily - Brandon's claim does not threaten U2's place in history, nor does he claim to be trying to take it. Just he reckons the world is ready for a successor for the globe-straddling-super-huge-colossus-behemoth-band in the world title that our favourites currently hold. We all hope Bono and the lads will have something to say about it next year.

But please, let's lay off Mr Flowers just for doing what Bono's been doing for the last 20 years (at least...)

And before anything is said, I mean Ali Hewson...not our own, dearest Ali709 lol

  8. Watch out now...no one beats me!!

As for Mr. Flowers here...I shall agree with Dan. Of course they will retire some day, and they should, unless they want to look as stupid as the Rolling Stones. The Killers making such a comment is a bit weird and may be taken as impolite, but it's just a guy being ambitious and a little egoistic.

The main points for me in his comments are: 1.he acknowledges that the boys are the greatest/best around. 2. he's hoping he can be as great as the boys whenever they retire. 3. He's being a bit impolite, calling for them to retire...but honestly guys, the time is coming and it's close, so he is right somehow...

  9. lol...I didn't see your post before I posted...ok then Nate

  11. There's nothing wrong with having ambition but slagging other bands, calling them old or dinosaurs or whatever...

    1) It's in bad form.
    2) It's a sign of insecurity.
    3) Punk bands called Led Zeppelin dinosaurs but how many millions applied for the ticket for Led Zeppelin's Dec 2007 O2 Long show?

It's good to see that Brandon Flowers has ambition but he should note that his second album sold worse and got worse reviews than their first.

I like both Killers albums. There is good stuff there. But they've hardly had a "The Unforgettable Fire" much less a "The Joshua Tree" or "Achtung Baby".

Once they've done that... then Brandon would be understood for making such a statement
