1. They put out one of the most amazing debut albums ever released IMO. Pity about their follow-ups...never even bothered to buy 'em. Let your music do the talking buddy!
  2. Well...we all have to admit that in 10 years U2 will be replaced as the best band. It's sad, but it's true...
And there are IMO 3 possible bands:
Coldplay, BUT only if they go back to their AROBTTH-style...
Muse, best band live, next to U2...My personal fav.
The Killers, but they might need to become more commercial. Their music isn't easy to listen too...
  3. No one stays at the top forever... Did no one see the movie Casino? The whole point of pop is that it's disposable and the next big thing is always around the corner - U2 are relatively rare in their ability to remain successful, relevant and not embarrassing (I'm talking to you, Mr Jagger). So enjoy them while they still have the talent to make great music and not just releasing crap just to have a money raking tour to support...

  4. Quote of the day!

Although by "Pop" I hope you dont mean the album...which certainly isnt disposable by any means!!

  5. They're my girlfriends favorite band, and I never forget to tell her they suck big time. xD

I like both The Killers albums along with Sawdust, I really do. BUT. Brandon Flowers is now 27. At the age of 27 Bono had The Joshua Tree.

    Wikipedia.org:
"The person most responsible for Flowers's musical development is his brother Shane, 12 years his senior, who showed him Smiths videos and U2's Rattle and Hum movie."

"Flowers was known for initiating feuds between The Killers and other bands, such as The Bravery, Fall Out Boy, and Panic at the Disco.[9][10] On July 14, 2006, however, he apologized to the bands in an interview to AOL Music, saying "I'd like to take it all back. These people are just doing what they want to do, just like I am...I'm actually a nice person and I love people. I just am opinionated, and sometimes jealous. It's not something I'm proud of." Frontman Sam Endicott (of The Bravery) and bassist/frontman Pete Wentz (of Fall Out Boy) reportedly received, and accepted, telephone apologies prior to the article's publication. With regard to the criticisms leveled at Panic at the Disco, Flowers said "I don't even know what their music's like, or if I would even like it...That made me feel even worse, to think they could have been fans of ours and I hurt their feelings. That's just stupid.""

P.S. Coldplay doesn't have chance against The Killers.

  6. I think Muse kicks both asses...and Nickelback's too...
Other bands who make a chance to become as big as U2 are Keane, Snow Patrol and the Editors...
  7. Something really, REALLY big would have to happen in this world so that anyone could top U2, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin etc...

And I don't point at changes in the music only, but the whole picture - society.
  8. First post.

I think U2 may be the last band for quite some time to have that global or universal appeal that touches almost every country on the planet. They are huge, everyone knows it, everyone has heard of them, and no one currently has that pinnacle of success.

These types of bands are a dying breed especially with the internet and the fragmentation of rock into so many different aspects. I've never seen the rock scene be so fragmented with the US seemingly going is some direction(god knows what it is - ya I'm talking about neo-punk shite) that is completely different how UK/Europe are going.

U2 are a balance above all that, which can appeal to the masses. They're reliable and a proven success. If you're young or older you can pick and choose from a plethora of the back catalogue to enjoy. The latest of very successful rock bands(post 90s), with the exception of a few, can barely scratch what U2 have done or will do. They all sound the same and do the same thing on every record.

U2 offer you something to sink your teeth into every time.
  9. If Pearl Jam haden't commited career suicide back in 94, they would probally be the worlds biggest band by now. Personally I hate the killers, and think my basement ska band was better than them.
