Anyway, 2011 is going to be a great year for music... Lots of great bands with new albums... R.E.M., Radiohead, Beady Eye, U2 and Coldplay and there are roumours of even Aerosmith and Metallica back in the writing spot!

If U2 adds to that list it could be the best year for alternative and rock since 2008.

  2. i would have said the same years ago when everyone was scared of "competition" with them .. not so sure now

  3. when CP were at the grammys (the year they won them for Viva la Vida) Chris said sumthing like "the only reason we r winning these are because U2 didnt have an album out last year"

  4. well said ..
i just have the feeling that, cause of their dissatisfacion for No line sales, they are unsure of which way to go for staying on top of the chart.
it's a similar situation to Pop era, for different reasons maybe.
i don't know .. i wouldn't want they're thinking of this kind of things in addition to others.
this is my momentary impression .. i hope wrong
what i wish is something like .. "we're a band called U2 we're from the north side of Dublin and this is our .. new album" .. only thinking of what they really feel to do not what the charts want
i'm pretty in a romantic mood in this moment
U2 is U2 as someone said
  5. Im a bit afraid that if this next album wont be a success they will consider to quit. I hope om wrong, but I really feel that especially Bono want to be on top of the charts and I also think thats the reason why they are working on this new album with popular producers. I think they should just make their own music and not trying to be populair and be on top of the charts, the most artist who are on top of the charts nowadays are Dance, RNB, Rap and Pop artist and the Rock groups arent that important anymore for the young people.
  6. Ahem.. Not all young people

2010. was one hell of a year, while here you mention bands that aren on top of their possibilities anymore. Ok, Radiohead and Coldplay will deliver great albums, I'm sure, but the rest..

While this year you had The Suburbs, High Violet etc...truly brilliant albums.
  8. I think the only band there I'm excited to hear something new (besides U2) from is Aerosmith. Nine years without an original album and the first that doesn't contain covers (as good as that album was) or previous songs with two new songs to entice you to pick it up.

Thankfully U2 haven't resorted to doing that on a regular two-year basis.

There needs to be some good rock again or even some seriously good pop or R&B. It's all drum-machine and sampled crap out there that's popular now. Not that you can't find good stuff for yourself doing a few-minute search for good records - this year alone I've picked up at least 20 good albums!
