There are certainly better songs than it on the album, but not a single song would have done better on radio. I stand by that with Magnificent. I think the evidence lies in the abundance of radio play that it did not receive.
I'm afraid I largely agree. I actually think NLOTH was good, bar some duds (though ATYCLB has them too, right?). But no great singles. GOYB and Magnificent were perhaps the only single-like songs. Opening with Magnificent might indeed not have made much of a difference.
To add a sci-fi spin, what if the first single had been Invisible instead?
