1. I wouldn't think about closing this one. It would just be nice to have something constructive come of it. Tapers want this, there's demand for that. ...... We provide that, tapers don't like this. Maybe it's a sign of the times. I know when I start taping I will probably torrent my recordings with mp3s included in the same torrent as the lossless. If you want the lossless then it's there, if you want the lossey well its there too. And if you want both for handiness then take the lot. No need for crap re-encoding. Just put the lossy file size in the info file so it's easy to see if it's been tampered with.
  2. edit.
  3. Lyndon, no. Not here, not again. Thanks

  4. Excuse me, what was wrong with my post - it's a valid consideration relevant to the discussion, if you disagree with me please post your points rather than censoring my posts.

Completely disagree, that is such a shortsighted comment. I'm not a taper but a photographer. I only put my pictures online on my own site, with a copyright sign on it. This implies that it the pictures stay my property.

I can't stop anyone from copying them, but when I find out someone uses my pictures commercially they're in big shit. Simple as that.

You kinda missed my point as a result of poor word choice on my part. I basically agreed with what you said. U2start does give credit to tapers, much like you copyright your photos. However my point is once you put it out there you can't expect to have control over it realistically.

I'm all open for discussion but do not get personally offensive. Please stop with that. That makes no sense at all.
  7. What exactly I've missed here?
  8. Nothing it's a pointless discussion as yeah already concluded correctly

  9. I don't think it's pointless.
We all know where a discussion on that subject leads us on this site, though.

  10. "More respect for tapers wishes"

So what happens when everybody becomes a taper?

technology my friends, how far away are we from everyone being able to record a high quality show? Then you would have 100 different soures to choose from within hours or minutes of a show; oh wait, thats already starting to happen!

i am talking about something affordable and small like maybe the next generation flip or iPod recorder, who knows but its coming.

My main feeling is that if you don't want it shared on 'inferior' servers (how is that any less insulting than us disrespecting the tapers 'demands') then don't put it on the Internet in the first place (and certainly dont start a topic with a link to your own website where you then have a go at our site). There seems to be an incredible snobbery amongst a small minority of tapers about something that isn't even yours to get possesive over in the first place once you put it in the public domain. I know you taped it and your skill at this is to be celebrated, but if you want to control how your recording is shared (don't get that myself, but each to their own) then don't use the Internet. You don't own the intellectual rights therefore your demands have no more hold than our wish to create an open-to-all site for music sharing.

    IMO of course.

    +2

IMO the tapers can't really do much, they NEED an audience, some of them seem to have the attention go to their head and are now trying to use what little power they have to stoke their egos.

If there are tapers who will only allow lossless and don't allow their recordings to be posted here, you can bet that there will be more who are only too happy.

Well he does have 'lossless' (spelt wrong too) in his name which is a big hint.

WTF, again - share it or don't share it and shut the f-word up.

    Cheers.

The funny thing is the FLAC will hardly sound better than a decent MP3, I mean after all it's an amateur recording with audience noise and what not, it is the exact equivalent of downloading a crappy quality youtube video and encoding it to Bluray specifications.

For what it's worth and all their hot air and bluster, these tapers don't seem to be very knowledgeable audiophiles, more audiophile posers than anything.
