    Jeebus I remember those days

  3. Matt: I'm sure I'll have some great fun. Will be very nice when I (hopefully) get my driver's license in two years.
  4. You have to study driving for two years?

You don't have to. You can't get your license until 18, like in most European countries. But you can start practice driving at 16. Of course it's no requirement though.
  6. Wow you start technically at 15 1/2 here. 18 seems old.

Well, that's what it is in most countries, at least in Europe. Here, from 16, you can drive with a tutor, which can be for example your parent.
  8. You can get a permit at 15 here, which lets you drive with an adult. At 15 1/2, you get something where you can drive by yourself during the day, and if you go 6 months with no ticket or wreck, you get a license. Or at least I think that's how it works. It's been awhile.

Sounds a bit unsafe May be part of the reason why four times more people die of traffic-related accidents in the US. (Sweden is second in the world in having the least of those. Something to be proud of.)

Way it worked for me was this:

15, you can legally get your permit. With a permit, you must be driving with an adult at all times.

After you've completed 50 hours (I know its more, now) of logged driving with an adult as practice, you may turn that into the DMV (Department of Motorized Vehicles if I recall correctly), where you take the written test and then provided you pass that, a driving test with someone who works at the DMV.

You can legally get your license at any time after you turn 16.

Usually, an outside driving course is taken (whether through your high school, or through a private place that teaches in the classroom and out on the road). There's too much to learn to trust to a parent, no matter how great they are at driving. Driving all becomes such second nature even after only a few years, so the small things that are essential to know might even slip our minds while we're teaching. That's why we pay for classes.
  11. It probably is too easy to get a license here but I doubt it will ever change.
