I hope this experience involves at least one other true fan!

Just the two of you in a theatre and your girl felt asleep?? Man you did something wrong there.... I sure know what I would do alone in a theatre with U2 playing 'in the back' LOL
  2. I saw this marvel (twice!!) last night and it was absolutely mindblowing and at times just pure magic. I really don't know what else I can add to describe U2:3D but it's truly everything everybody says it is. You do swear you're right there in the pit and on stage, and many times find yourself wanting to reach out and touch the band (like Bono's hand during Love and Peace, LOL).I love the attention they gave Adam by the way. I wanted to cry during SYCMIOYO, Miss Sarejevo, and Streets. So beautiful and very moving. Now I realize it's easy to nag about the fact that it's not a full setlist but in my opinion both COBL and Mysterious Ways really deserved to be included here. Other than that song choices are excellent and the film itself is just spectacular in every way. Even though it's an hour and half it felt like a minute and a half at the end. I fell in love with Yahweh. Never cared much for the tune on album but the acoustic rendition they used was an outstanding choice for a closer and gave me a huge appreciation for the song. I don't know about the other IMAX theatres in the USA but it appears locations in southern California won't be showing the movie after this Thursday January 31, so get to an IMAX pronto if you haven't seen it yet. This really is something truly special and a film every U2 fan needs to experience at least once. Well worth the price of admission and then some!!!

  3. Well,
What can I can say That hasn't been said already!!
Truely an amazing experience!! And even more so if you've been to a Vertigo show!!! Amazing to relive it this way!!

This movie is truely a piece of art!! My heart was beating so fast, from begining to end and after. I cried yup, cried three times, During Somtimes, Where the Streets, and With or Without you!! I was mesmerized by Edge's guitars, Adam's Bass in my face, Larry's passion and Bono wiping my tears away!!! Overwhelming!!!! The crowd is amazing!! I loved seeing the smile on thier faces!!!

One of the best things about this experience is that my mom is now a fan!!! She says she wants to go to the next U2 concert!! I told her I'll buy her ticket!!!

This movie, I feel is a gift directly from U2 to me and all of us!!!
I am more impassioned and more in love with them and thier music!!
Amazing!!! is all I can say!!!!!

Thanks for reminding what I should have been doing... I was so engrossed in the film itself that I didn't even turn to her until the end credits. "All I Want Is You" must have put her down for good.... Such a horrible song, right?

    "Let's fast-forward 19 years..."

The girl I am dating now went to see U23D with me last night and she loved it. She actually left being more of a fan than ever before.

She commented on how passionate a performer Bono is in the film (although I know he's done better throughout the years).

The visuals were absolutely amazing! The Fly was almost too much, trying to read/translate all the words jumping out at you. I was never really a fan of Love & Peace Or Else, but I enjoyed seeing it in the film--the solo snare performance by Larry/Bono added something special to it. Miss Sarajevo was so perfect... especially with the "isolated Bono shot from a distance with the crowd surrounding him" camera angle. Adam definitely got his fair share of screen time, too, which is nice for a change.

There were many adults (my age) that went with their children, who were quite young. Isn't great that one generation is exposing their children to what they loved to listen to growing up?? If I had kids, I would have brought them, too.

Overall, an incredible film to experience in the theatre!!! I have even been telling my students today to go see it ASAP!

The only downside... (well, two of them)... The audience was not responding very much to it. And, the set list could have been more complete (or at least some other, lesser known, songs)...

  5. Great parts during the film:

Of course "Streets" is always great.
Love and Peace, or else - i don't care too much for the song but it was really cool when they drew a picture of what Bono was forming with his hands
Sometimes always gets me a bit teary-eyed....especially seeing Bono trying to hug his father and coming up empty handed.
With or Without you was amazing, and as someone else stated earlier, I have a new appreciation for Yaheweh. It was really a great closer.

The intro of One became better in the 5th leg. And I mean the background music, not Bono's speech (which is quite the same all the time, we've discussed that earlier)..I love Saitama's One too
  8. Interesting stuff re: box office numbers....

In its first week, the film brought in $964,315 USD, making it #20 on the box office chart for it's first week in limited release. Before you get down on American crowds for not supporting the movie, it should be noted that the film was only shown on 61 screens (compared to over 3,000 screens each for 'Cloverfield' and '27 Dresses') which makes its per-screen average a whopping $15,808, more than double what the #1 movie, 'Meet the Spartans' made.

    FULL CHART HERE

EDIT: These numbers are only from Jan. 25-Jan. 27, so they don't take into account the first two days the film played here.
  9. I know it was mentioned earlier that Melbourne Imax don't have any idea as to a release in Australia and this is still the case. Nothing to get excited about as yet, but atleast they have finally acknowledged the films existence on the Imax Melbourne website. See below (under Imax news clip 1). Nothing yet on Sydney site. I have a friend that recently saw Beowulf 3D in Sydney and mentioned the U23D trailer was played prior to. All this would suggest to me that something is in the pipeline down under.

Certainly looks like it. I'm waiting on RealD's response for Adelaide.

  11. Silly question but what are the odds that there might be at least an audio CD released for this film? The sound quality was stellar for everything and I'm sure many would enjoy having just the audio tracks of these amazing performances especially if there isn't going to be a DVD release any time soon.
  12. I reckon someone might just record the audio from the show. It did sound good even from the National Geographic podcast preview.

There will be a DVD release soon, but not until the 3D chips inside TVs are capable of displaying 3D.
