1. Preachy Bono? Hell no. One of his speeches takes as long as a song. Play a song using that time instead!!
  2. I liked 2011 Bono, he didn't really speech at all when I saw them. And when he did it was about being out on a Saturday night in Anaheim LOL
  3. Elevation tour Bono weirds me out. It's almost like he has this totally different demeanor that says "I'm super humble again, I'm just a rockstar and I have simple things to say". There wasn't a whole lot of balls behind his elevation persona, a ton of heart, but maybe too much. I liked the Bono we saw on the previous tour, the one who makes jokes, talks about everyday things, gives the audience the finger as a joke and introduces the band by making fun of them (at least sometimes).

I've said here elsewhere that if U2 really want a transformation the scale of Achtung Baby they have to bring that transformation outside the music. For some people music is all that matters but to me it's the entire image. Bono has to surprise people, Edge has to throw away his beanie (as cool as it is) and they basically have to reinvent themselves. Again, IF that's what they're going for. I don't think it'll ever happen, I think they're comfortable with being themselves now and they're not really out to prove anything anymore in a big way other than having "relevant music". I think we'll see a pretty similar Bono to the last tour and Vertigo tour (they weren't that different in my opinion) and what'll be the biggest change is the music they play. They played the big hits U2 show with the massive stage to massive audiences. Time to prove they can do the opposite. Not what you'd expect from a U2 show, small audiences and small venues where the music and words get across even better, so what you say really counts.

  4. The Elevation tour definitely had the best performances - at least from a bootleg/DVD release stand point.

  5. After 911, Bono seem to get more preachy...he was definitely very preachy during the Vertigo show I attended.
  6. As Matt said it before, I also think some War song will appear next tour...Maybe Drowning Man or Two Heart Beat As One.

Also, l believe some Pop song will be back. Maybe Gone or (hope) Dischoteque...It depends on what kind of music our boys are making for us (dance songs or some natural and quiet tunes).

Finally, I'd love to see something from How To Dismantle... back. Since they played it in that Clinton concert, I hope to see A Man And A Woman (please son't judge me) or Yahweh...
  7. I was very surprised that they only played the two songs from HTDAAB during the entire 360 tour...mind you, they did play these two songs EVERY night!
  8. Yep....I'd keep with Vertigo, but I'd only use City Of Blinding Lights as an encore opener...otherwise, play another song and I'll be fine.
  9. I don't mind COBL and Vertigo played every night again, same with BD... but that's about it from the 2000's that are "warhorses" LOL

Elevation, Stuck and Walk On need to not ALL be at the show at once IMO, switch them up. How bout some When I Look at the World or Original of the Species?
  10. OOTS acoustic would be marvelous actually.

  11. Anything instead of Stuck acoustic...

I hope the songs from No Line don't vanish though! I can see them keeping Boots only... just because it was the first single. I hope Magnificent, Breathe, No Line, MOS get played every now and then.

  12. Preachy Bono is not the same a Speechy Bono. Bono's super long speech before One on the Chicago DVD = Speechy Bono. Bono's passionate modification to SBS from Slane along with his spoken word during BTBS from Boston = Preachy Bono. Trust me, you want Preachy Bono.

The thing I liked about his Elevation Tour persona is that it had a ton of heart, but also energetic passion. Vertigo Tour Bono was very sleek and almost corporate, which was also amazing. 360 Tour Bono brought back some of that raw heart, but he toned down a lot of his provocative speeches and manners as well. I want to see him bring back that punchiness.
