and it best not be incredibly 'Trance-influenced', coz that'd suck. hard.

    ATYCLB-style, plz.

Too much trance isn't good, but I really don't hope for another ATYCLB... I mean, they can make some very interesting music with some dance influences. Another album like ATYCLB or HTDAAB would be totally boring and not creative at all and that is not what U2 is about in my opninion. I hope that it will be as experimental as Pop was, or even more. I hope that it will shock all the people and critics because it isn't like anything they have ever heard before. I don't even care if most people won't like it, because often that means that it's way ahead of its time and people aren't ready for it, like Pop was. And that's what makes it so great. If they go on and try to copy their old albums like JT or ATYCLB, they could just stop right now because we all now that they can only make a worse album then.
  4. Just don't make it All That You Can't Leave Behind, and I'm happy. Bring us back to our beloved 90s!

  8. a satire of EMO!
  9. Going off on a bit of a tangent here but, does anyone think that U2 can return to their form of the late 80s/ eary 90s era? Is it even possible to make another Joshua Tree/ Achtung Baby?
Have any comparable bands done something similar?

Otherwise those who expect the new album to be something of a second renaissance for U2 are going to be dissapointed. I think that rather than placing high hopes on the new album, we should instead expect more of the same (ie their recent work) and be pleasantly suprised when it comes out.

I don't want another JT or AB and I don't want a replica of any previous work they did. U2's great strength has been the power to surprise and enthrall their fans with completely new material. I want another chapter in U2's story.

Personally, I wouldn't mind another Achtung Baby or Joshua Tree, or perhaps a reimagining of Zooropa or Pop (which IMO have not been done to their full potential).

However I wasn't suggesting that they make another JT/AB but rather whether they could return to the innovation, atmosphere etc. of that era.

    Agreed there...
